Macro lens with tele converter for PAKO :-) Minolta & Tamron

Unread post by InTheSky »

Test executed with the 200mm Minolta Macro 4.0 APO for PAKO and by the time my boy didn't wanted to sleep :-)

TEST 1:
The goals of the test is to test the magnification of the Tele-converter at same distance from the subject with the lens setup at 1:1 . Exposure lock at 1/250 F14 on Camera, only swapping the tele converter : Minolta 1.4X, 2X and Tamron 2X SP (8pins).

TEST 2: same as TEST 1 but Aperture lock on the lens at F14 and exposure and exposition adjusted -> the different depth of field :Minolta 1.4X, 2X and Tamron 2X SP (8pins).

TEST 3: Different distance, but same exposure 1/250 F14: Minolta 1.4X and 2X.

Salut Frank,

I don't see "more detail" with the 200mm + X1.4 combo. I see a little less cotrast -and a wonderful result fr a telconverter. but no more detail...

Here is crop upscaled at 1000 pixels horizontal (in fact almost 100p of with the 2x).

200mm 4.0 alone :

200mm + 1.4x :

200mm + 2x :

The 1.4 seams to give more details, the 2x is a little bit different from the 2x, but it is starting to be blur ... so, I can't a big difference in detail.

Or equivalent depth of field with the same setting on the 200mm F4.0 at F14 (x converter and lost of light :-( ) :

1.4x total : F20:

2x (Minolta) total : F29:

2x (Tamron SP) Total : F29:

On this one, the Minolta 2X is starting to lost a lot of detail, but the 1.4x still remains with good result.

The very interesting thing is that the Tamron SP (8pins contact white tele-converter) seams to give good result. And also, the Tamron keep the AF functionnalities on the Macro lens where the 1.4x and the 2x Minolta are switch the camera automatically to manual Focus (probably to support old AF system not sensible enough to focus).
