Well, Sony is keeping one of the reason why I'm on the Minolta mount, for very small and good prime lenses. But now ... let's see how well the lens perform at full open aperture, because 85mm for portrait is rarely on my side more than F4.0.

In fact probably I will never buy it because I already has the 85mm 1.4 and the 100 2.0, but ... if in some horrible event I'm going to loose but of them ... this will be probably the best inexpensive replacement.

But, for some friend starting photography and wanting to get a good affordable portrait lens combine with slow wide zoom lens, I think this is a very good start. (probably the next investment for this person will be to go save money for the 135 1.8 after that).

Low price of the 35 1.8 make me feel that the 50mm 1.7 will start to drastically drop in price on Ebay if they have done a good job designing it. (instead they showing another full frame camera at low price ).

The question on my side about the 24mm 2.0 Zeiss is how good compare to the 28mm 2.0 ... I hope some body on the net will do a test (for the moment the Zeiss if very bigger compare to the 28mm). I will love to see in the future a Zuiko style 21mm for the Sony mount .

thats intereting. the MFD makes the lenses more attractive for sure. I was interested in the 30mm macros before but this 30mm F1.8 makes more sense. I hope they made it so DMF works on it though

I have a Sigma 90mm f2.8 macro that I bought in Tokyo in 1991. I use it occasionally both for macro and non-macro shots. It has an MFD of about 15cm.

I have a tamron 90mm .. it's too long for me on APS-c for portraits really. I have a 135mm too I could use .. I'll prefer the 30 and 50mm because it looks like i'm starting to do a lot of portrait stuff i've never done beofre
