24-105 vs 28-105

A local seller is selling an old 700si for a crazy low price. He has one pretty awful pic posted. From the look of it, it's either a 28-105 f3.5-4.5 or a 24-105 f3.5-4.5. I could care less about the body, I'm interested in the lens.
Any clues as to what this is? Which lens would you rather have and why?
Regardless, I am going to pick it up on friday if it's still around (the price is that good).
Thanks in advance,
L

It looks just like my 28-105, with one exception - the distance scale window looks to be slightly wider.

my 28-105 was 100cdn in mint condition I got it to use as a more portable alternative to my 28-135, I still like what I get from the 28-135 better but the MFD on the 28-105 makes it a lot more convenient.

A few weeks ago I paid $160 for a new in the box 28-85, and $180 for a new in the 24-85. -- I wanted to try them, before I decide which one to sell and which one to keep.
Used ones have priced all over the board. I've seen them go for $80 up. Some on ebay are trying to sell used ones for $200.
-- I think the 28-85 is a little sharper, and the pictures seem to have a tiny bit more color saturation. It seems to be identical to what I get with a 28-135, that I bought back around 1988.

I have in my collection identical RS last series 28-105mm and 24-85mm. It's a hard call as to which is better, but both are better than the 24-105mm which I disposed of. I use the 24-85mm mostly. I also have a 28-75mm KM and a 24-200mm Tokina, and really, the herd should be thinned a bit...

I'm just curious... any opinion how the 35-105mm stacks against these two?

The lens in now in my posession. As correctly guess by many it was the 28-105. I got it and a 700si body (which is pretty nice really) for, (are you ready?) $30 USD (£19). Not too shabby. There is one tiny place where it looks like the coating on the front element is scratched. It's not near the center of the lens and I can't seem to make it have any effect. For what I paid, no big deal.
Will be messing around with it for the next few weeks and days to see how I like it...
Thanks all for your help.
