Hi All,
I'm looking to buy and good wide angle zoom lens for my full frame Sony. I've currently got a Carl Zeiss16-80mm lens which I use on my A350 but it is a cropped sensor lens. Can anyone recommend a good equivalent for the A850. [ /color]

How about the Zeiss 24-70 f2.8?
Otherwise, the Sony SAM 28-75 f2.8 is a good companion, good quality and sharp and good close focus capabilities.
Regards

If you are wanting to go wide, go wide. Don't waste your time with the 24-70. Is it a good lens, sure, but people get it because it has more everyday application than the 16-35. But the 24-70 is not wide enough for really big vistas.

Much does depend on your photographic preferences, but if the 16-80 is usually wide enough on a cropped sensor, then the 24-70, which gives a corresponding field of view on full frame, would be your best bet. I have (amongst others!) a Sigma 12-24, Minolta 17-35 G and CZ 24-70 which I mount on an A900. The 24-70 is the lens which is invariably used for 95% of my landscape photo’s.

Thanks for your views so far all. Interesting comments. I'll ponder a while longer.
