Wouldn't that have to be a completely new design?

The registration distance for the NEX is much, much shorter than for the Alpha cameras, so it appears to me that the only way that a NEX lens would focus when used on an Alpha would be with the use of an adapter, or the addition of at least one new element in the lens itself - unless I am missing something.

With best wishes,

You're absolutely right. I didn't mean that the same lens would be used, that would've been unreasonable in my sentence. I meant a UWA lens very compact and very neat as a prime lens.
But I guess it won't be too small
Just one question Tom, why are trying to demolish my science-fictional dreams?

There is a 16mm fisheye already and the shots from it look like, they defish pretty well. I just don;t know whay it would be better as a prome that it would be in a zoom. it's so wide does that really even matter? my 17-35 is very nice wide open and it isn't distored like the fisheye lens is

I really really want to see a comparison of Samyang 85/1.4 with Sony 85/2.8 and since not many have the Samyang (Rokinon, Opteka, Bower...) I guess I have to acquire the latter myself

The MTF chart for the 35mm F1.8 only shows part of the frame?? I thought it should go to 20 like averyone else?

Oh thats cause it's a DT lens... it doesn't do full frame

Any comments on the 35/1.8 chart?

I am not real adept at reading these things and I am considering this and the 30/1.4 Sigma.

The chart is not bad at all. I expected worse given the fewer number of elements compared to the Nikon 35/1.8, but it's actually pretty decent. And the initial results from people who just got the lens are generally positive. Seeing as the Sony is smaller, lighter, and cheaper than the Sigma, unless you have a need for f/1.4, i'd say go for the Sony!

I see the 35mm 1.8 is £149 on RGBPhoto.

Quite tempted at that price - I've used my Minolta 50mm 1.7 indoors a lot when on holiday (usually places that don't allow flash) and something wider would be great.

I had decided to save up for a Tokina 11-18mm though

I could not resist the Sony at $175. I got it this past week and spent an hour with it.

I think this is a fantastic lens for this price and it can't be any worse than my Sony 50 1.4 build wise (blades began sticking after 12 months)

New 85/2.8

David,
Did you ever find out if its works with your T/C, I have a 2x Mx-AF Kiron converter and was wondering the same as I am looking to get the new 85mm lens.
The Kiron has 8 pins and model MC7

Thanks Graeme

I've never got hold of the 85mm lens, so far. But I'm pretty sure the converter will not work, my 2X does not work with the SAM 30mm f/2.8, shows the usual hunting action associated with SSM lenses used on converters.

I have just got the Sony 2.8/85mm SAM lens ( £198 at Jessops) and can confirm it will not even attach to my Kenko 1.4X TC because the rear element sticks out too much.

I am really pleased with the lens, very nice bokeh and sharp. Seems pretty well collimated too, only a slight fall off in sharpness in the lower right corner when fully open and shooting a flat wall. Will never notice it in real world situations.

Really light weight and small, ideal for unobtrusive people photography.

Nice close focus distance too.

I no longer have a desire for a Zeiss 85/1.4, this lens will meet my needs.
