Forgive me my rant-like post...

I'm a little bit unsure, maybe someone here can give me some good advice.

I love birds/animals/butterflies, photography and being in nature, so I want to combine the three. With my current setup, I find it difficult to capture all my subjects, especially birds.

In short: I want to buy the best telephoto lens I want to afford. With a budget of 1500 euros, I should be able to buy myself a good lens. In all aspects, the Sony 70-400G seems the best choice for the money.

Although the money is no problem, I find myself hesitant to push the button to order the lens. I want it, can afford it and know I won't be disappointed. Even the wife is fine with it, but still...

Did you have these same doubts when you bought your first high-end lens? If so, did you regret it afterwards? Probably not, but still.

Yes, you are doing the right thing..... to have doubts
It means deep inside you really want a very nice lens...
So, if you want a very good lens then you should definitely buy the 70-400 G

That lens has a rating of 4.81 @ Dyxum out of 5. There are 87 reviews and I didn't read them all but most spoke very highly of it. You can read the info for yourself @ www.dyxum.com , click on lenses on the top right and type in the lens info and it's all there.

I read some of the reviews, I know the lens is the best. Just am anxious to press that "order" button for some reason.

The 70-400mm G is not from the same genes (or manufacturing facility) as the 70-300mm SSM G for example. It comes from the same workshop as the 70-200mm, 300mm, and the future 500mm.

That makes a very big difference to its merits.

Well, after reading some more reviews and looking up a lot more pictures I pushed the button and ordered it. I could get into buying cheaper options in this zoom range, but I'll only be disappointed buy their IQ I think.

My wife was trying to enable me in the same way, recently, for the same lens. I didn't make the plunge, and I don't regret it--mostly because I would have been lugging around that heavy lens in Seattle where it wouldn't have been very useful. However, the next time I go to Yellowstone or another National Park with ice-age mega-fauna, I'll take my wife up on her enabling.

Your wife is as understanding as mine. It certainly helps.

I picked up the lens today.

Maybe I'm the only one, but it is smaller and lighter than I had imagined! Still a little heavy to lift all day long, but much smaller than I thought it would be. Now to find some time to use it this weekend
