I wish to buy the 70-200 G but would be willing to wait if there is a concrete expectation of a new one coming out in the next few months. Judging from the 70-400 G, the price would be similar for a (claimed) higher performance.

Of course, someday, there will be a new one. My inquiry has exactly the purpose of avoiding a purchase without consudering all available information.

Is there any more concrete fact, rumour, expectation than "someday"?

Well, there is expectation that the 70-200 G will get the same treatment as the 70-400 G, new coatings & an SSM upgrade & I would imagine in the not too distant future (depending upon how many of the existing ones are left in stock around the world) but concrete .
