Finding performance info on this lens isn't easy yet, but PopPhoto have a short review, and they give it very high marks, better than the Sigma and Canon versions even, for example, the Canon lens had 1.28% barrel distortion at 70mm, the Tamron was only 0.23%, they rated the sharpness and contrast in the excellent range.... and the price is only $700 US.
Might have too think seriously about this lens..sounds good.

It seems that B&H photo in New York City got in 6 of these on Thursday sometime during the day, and they were gone by shortly before midnight! I am on the email notice of instock and did not get a email as did several others that are on the notify list as well. checked other major retailers here in states on there web site and no stock yet. I am on email notice list with 2 other dealers as well as with B&H.

Wow, B&H must have a bunch of back orders too fill in the A-mount version, presumably they'll get to your's soon Seanhoxx, it'd be great if you could let us know what you think, when it arrives and you can give it a bit of a tryout.
Greg
ps The main test gripe at DPR as far as I can see was the performance of the focus motor (it wasn't as good as Canon's USM) apparently, that shouldn't be a problem for the A-mount version.

check out the review on pop photo, even has a video with it. Based on my limited use of tamron glass I have been very pleased so far. I think the build and the function will be quality. The focus speed with screw drive will be fast, maybe a bit faster on A700 then on A100 / 200. it won't be $1200 - $1600 U.S. fast, but it should be fast enough.
