Minolta 70-210mm "Beercan" Review

Unread postby bfitzgerald » Wed Jul 24, 2019 11:39 am

I finished my review of the beercan. I've used 3 copies of the lens, not many differences but the CA did vary a bit
In fact that is really the only obvious optical downside. On 24mp FF it's sharp across most of the frame (decently sharp)
resolution at F4 is also good, it does pick up a little in contrast 210mm end stopping down, but I've found it very usable wide open.

You have to "nail" the focus, if it's even slightly off you won't get the results you want. On 16/24mp APS-C it's also up to the job, so based on that I would say it's probably fine for higher mp FF bodies, though of course your tolerance/pixel peeping comes into play.
Real world the CA isn't a show stopper, the green out of focus fringe effect can be tricky to remove
