I am shaking my head in sort of disbelief that it has been 20 years since I bought my Minolta D7i in May 2002. It was not my first digital (I had a 1.3mp Olympus and a 2.1mp Olympus before), but it was the one that got me to put aside my film cameras.

I have only just seen these pics, they are superb, with those lovely Minolta colours, and just 5.1mp, who needs 24 mp

Thank you.

I sold my D7i in 2004 after it had sat unused for almost a year. I bought a Canon 300D (Digital Rebel) + 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 kit lens in 2003 and started using it. I bought 128mb and 256mb CF cards to use with the D7i -- each was over $100 when I bought them, but the price was dropping because not too long after I bought the 128mb card I was able to get the 256mb card for almost the same price.

The D7i was my 3rd digital camera, but it was the first one that was capable enough, flexible enough, and that had enough megapixels that it coaxed me away from using my various film cameras. And since I had been scanning film for several years it was also great to immediately have a digital file. It used 4 AA batteries and really went through them because of the EVF so I bought 12 rechargeable nimh cells and usually went out with 4 in the camera and 4 more in my pocket.
