Is the A700 right for me?

I happened to purchase the UK Digital Camera magazine and noticed a review of the new Olympus E-30, which seems to be placed somewhere between the new E-620 and E-3 also using the new Panasonic 12 Mp 4/3 sensor. The review is very positive giving 86% but also stating that "Noise levels are good but it's fair to say the E-30 can't match the low noise levels offered by the larger format DSLRs." I have noticed repeatedly that when it comes to ISO800 and above the 4/3 sensors tend to have inferior noise performance compared with APS-C sensors with same Mp size sensor. This is the main reason why I personally discarded the 4/3 system when moving from film to digital. If you take snapshots only and never use larger prints or submit to photo agencies I guess it matters little, but if you do more critical work this can make a difference.

I used to have an Olympus E-510 and the two kit lens and I was more than happy with the IQ, what I was not happy with though was the 4/3rds. system that Oly use. Many folk I am sure are happy with the system I guess it is just down to personal preferences. I have just bought an a700 to replace my a350 and I love it.

I upgraded from the A100 and am glad I did.
