Re: LCD robustness
Well, since we all know that the A700 has an inferior LCD cover and that an external LCD protector is really necessary I guess I won't be using my A700 until I can get a new LCD protector.
I'll call Sony and maybe they will even send me one, but that will probably be a week or more to Hawaii. I really doubt that I can find one locally.

Re: LCD robustness
More complaints about the lcd scratching.

Also down the posting..quote:
"I have had THREE Sony LCD protectors for my A350, and every single one has broke. There are two little clips on the side of the protector, and one of these will develop a little crack, eventually leading to it completely breaking. I gave up after my third one broke (I should note that the camera was in the bag 90% of the time I had it, and it was never dropped!!)"
Looks like I had better ebay a spare one just in case, when the sony one does break, I'll post it back to them and complain

Re: LCD robustness
Thanks for the link, Barry. That just confirms my decision not to use my A700 while I am waiting to get a new LCD protector. Tough because I have been without it for going on 3 weeks. I hope the protector arrives within the next week.

There is a new thread with some useful posts about the A700 LCD here:

Re: LCD robustness
I had never heard of an LCD cracking spontaneously. If there was some temperature extremes I wouldn't be too surprised, but the stories in that thread seem pretty strange.

Re: LCD robustness
In anticipation of the damaged A200 LCD cover failing, I went ahead and decided to try a 3rd party job from Hong Kong. Got it today, interestingly it fits better than the Sony official one does, tighter..no movement from left to right etc.
I think I will be avoiding official screen protectors from now on, might post that off to Sony and let them know how unhappy I am with it! Or I could leave it till it falls off, it will keep cracking at the bottom tab.
To me, not only is the LCD robustness a disappointment, but the protectors themselves are a let down as well.
