My Sony Alpha A700 Took a DUMP Already!!

It sounds like there is a gulf of difference between Sony service depending on where you are. Sorry to hear of your troubles.
I had a good experience with Sony service in the UK and hence my perception of reliability and QOS is somewhat different. In general in the UK, I believe Sony is perceived as a slightly better brand for quality (but not necessarily cameras) especially on their higher end products (ie not PSP's and PS3's). I would hope the A700 comes into the higher end of their products and I certainly feel looked after here with my problem.

Its a real shame that the repair facility where you are (US?) isn't speedy and that your camera broke down in quite such an unusual way. That said, I had the Minolta 7D and I had to send that back for overheating around the sensor - hence purple tinged images and before I got my A700 it had developed a black frame issue where it would periodically take black frames and lock up, so I don't think all Minolta's were perfect by any stretch of the imagination. The back focus quality control on the original 7D's was pretty bad too I seem to remember.

After reading a lot of your post, either you are taking drugs either you have some personnal issues that make you so angry in your posts.
And you do not need to show off your past in electronic store or in the military, if you were that good at it you would have found your camera problems and solved it yourself.
My gears neither let me down and anyway I always have a good back up if it happens. And I am not a fanboy, so no need for you to call me fanboy and please no need to come back to that post with your anger.
Have fun and go out take pictures with your other gears, a photographer will always be able to take nice pictures with any camera he has in hands.
I remember seeing that pro guy taking pictures during the olympics in Beijing with an old Rollei camera.

Just a friendly warning...but sonolta (a.k.a the fish tank guy, minoltaman, and king of high ISOs) is a total ding-a-ling. This has been going on for years across just about every minolta/sony dslr forum across the web. He baits people — hook, line and sinker. Really, he is bad news. Just add him to your account's "foes" list, as I've done, and you will not see any of his posts. To be sure, any of the benefits from his contributions are grossly outweighed by his egregious online behavior.

BTW, loving the A900 for what it can do.

I've lost count of the number of times I felt like saying that Sonolta. Clearly you are a very accomplished photographer but your posts come across like an angry pre-pubescant high school jock. To be honest I was really shocked when you said you'd run some stores for 10 years - I really did think from your attitude that your were 15 years old.

I'm sorry your 700 went down, I'd be gutted if mine had, and the insinuation that you were high on something and should fix your faulty camera was a little uncalled for. I just thought you hadn't taken your Ritalin

Don't know about other guys on this board, but I have seen much better work from non professionnal photographers here in beijing where I live, than what Sonolta is showing and is proud of. And these guys do not show off...

Doesn't Sony have a factory owned service centre in the US somewhere? I keep hearing about that one and the laredo one but not any Sony ones.. Surely there is one in LA? where do the broadcast cameras get fixed there?

sounds like thepolace is badly nmanaged. the techs are supposed to update their workorders at milestone intervals while they work. Comunication is very very important in that business and it sounds like they've allowed the staff to get lazy.
