well you have to be alergic to show anything really. and even people that are alergic don't always react. the problem came to light with body peircings. cheap nickel plated studs and things were destroying peoples skin. To be honest the news of this ban scared the .. Cr.. out of me.. we send containerloads of machines to EU everymonth and everything shiney is nickel plated on them If we start using chrome like our competition it eliminates a very important advantage for us. when I read the details of it I was shocked that it was allowed to be written the way it is. it's even caused trouble over there because ever country in the EU has their own interpretation of these regulations (not only this one). I now use this example for my argument against our free trade negotiations with the EU currently in progress. we will wind up with some of their manufacturing but we have to "normalize" our trade laws with them <-- there are just to many problems with EU trade. it was easy getting Nafta working . Mexico has no laws to speak of so they just adopted what was happening up north and the US laws are pretty much the same as ours as far as trade is concerned.

That law always was a total waste of space, what about wrist watches, how many stainless watches are worn on peoples wrists? I've had a Seiko stainless (watch and band) for more than 20 years myself, (and I just bought a Casio one today that's got a stainless backplate, it's even stamped on it "stainless") and that part of my wrist/arm shows absolutely no ill efects whatsoever after all those years.

Ditto that. Stainless never hurt anyone unless they got hit by a piece of it! The same for Nickel. I've had nickel plated sidearms for over 20 years. It's this new concept that the whole world must bend to the least common denominator. A few people are allergic to peanuts, so ban them everywhere! No responsibility for the allergic person to keep away from them, put it all on the general public.

An old friend, since passed, was allergic to eggs. When we went to a restaurant, if the waiter didn't know about a dish, he'd get his butt up and go ask the chef! Imagine that, taking personal responsibility for your own health! [/rant]

well they will switch to cobalt I think. theres no data because it's rarely used for this purpose. and it would never be used in a belly button ring. it is a very pretty colour when steel is coated with it. a little lighter and bluer than the grey on the grip sensor now. Chrome works too but it corrodes easy and when the surface fails it gets sharp edges (chrome is brittle and fakes) I don't know of anything else than would be suitable. the other downside to chrome is that something else has to be under it except for steel. copper is the best .. but it doesn't keep it from corroding
