We get your point, guys, a few you want DOF preview and not HD VIDEO!
-Sonolta
That IS our point. Thank you for FINALLY realizing it! It's a feature we feel no need for, don't want to pay for, are afraid may make compromises in the picture quality of camera function to implement, etc.

The current implementation of the rear screen means that when you connect to HDTV, whatever is on the screen disappears, and is transferred to the HDTV. When you play back stuff (without using the remote) your joypad does the navigation. If they remove the joypad, and replace it with touchscreen control, it will be essential to have both the rear screen and the remote HDTV live at the same time. Also, you might even need different screens - one for display, one for control.
When shooting with eye to finder, the joypad does have functions you can use without taking your eye away, such as shifting focus to the centre point or other zones. It would be difficult to devise a touch screen which remained active with eye to finder (dPreview BigNose syndrome) and harder to use it without looking - the pad/stick type of control can at least by felt, as can the control wheels and buttons of the camera. If there is a touch screen function, I would guess it is additional to existing controls and not replacing them.
Finally, my DSLRs have screen protectors fitted. Some are adhesive, some are rigid plastic snap on covers. I guess some sort of protective film would still allow touch screen operation, but not all types. A touch screen would need to have excellent durability and maybe use an articulated arrangement like the R-1 or the E-3, where it can be turned round completely for safe protection.
Just some random thoughts on the practical side of a touchscreen DSLR. Touchscreen compacts are less trouble, you can slip them into a pouch and into your pocket, and you do not wear them around your neck or shoulder all day. Like touchscreen phones, they spend more time safely pocketed.
Don, in my country it's a severe insult saying to kiss the ... I'm pretty sure it's not polite in yours too.
I did not insult you, nor do I plan to insult anyone.
Why don't you try to change a bit your manners? Even your writing manners.
My advice, Don, be respectful.

I ponied up $1300 for a pNs.
I ponied up $800 for an A100.
I ponied up $800 for a KM5D.
I ponied up $1300 for the a700.
I ponied up $4000 for lenses.
I ponied up $1000 is imaging software.
I ponied up $450 for a pro quality monitor recently.
I ponied up for a new video0 card to drive that monitor.
I have ponied up for an $800 and a $2000 monitor in the past.
Funny, I don't see one of those $5000 to $8000 cameras you're always mouthing off about on that list!
You sir are a giant jackass that has nothing to offer here other than nonsense, lies, and hate.
Your momma should teach you some manners!
I believe everyone here can see who's momma was lacking the the teaching of etiquette! Notice that I don't do personal attacks, and I never attack your photographic skills, because I've seen what you do. I REALLY liked what you did with the lighthouse photos, and wish you'd share your techniques. You could teach us a lot, if you controlled the anger. You, however, personally attack everyone who has a difference of opinion with you, a sign of weak debating ability. You also attack the body of work of photographers that you've never seen.
You don't disagree...you tell lies and hurl unfounded insults. You sir are one of the BIGGEST LIARS I have ever met!
I should point out that we've never met, which makes your statement a lie.

OK, henceforth let's just ban word '(banned term)' - and 'lies'. We are talking differences of opinion here, and lies are something else. In Scotland if you called someone a (banned term) you would be called out. It's the same as calling someone a cheat, a thief, or something like that - it means dishonesty. Having a different view, or opinion, does not mean being a (banned term). Nor does having a change of opinion, or discussing an argument from more than one viewpoint, make someone a (banned term).
So let's stop slinging this particular word around, please. 'Hate' is also being misused. Disagreeing without someone does not mean hating them. You can disagree entirely with someone and respect them; you may even like them. You can disagree or argue on some points but agree on others. There may be just one point in a post you feel a need to dispute. It should not be necessary to counter every part of a post line by line. We do not need to have a reply to every opinion.
That's what ruins politics, and it is not improving this forum.

i think the point is Don is that not everyone has the same need for the same features and just because they argue against features/additions you are predisposed to does not a) mean they are wrong and b)merit the sort of diatribes you vent on them. Try and do the typing equivalent of counting to ten before you reply eh? Some of your posts are very offensive (some are very informative and useful as well) and at the risk of repeating what has been said many times your credibility suffers as a result.
Please dont use the friend or foe argument to respond. If the members of the forum act in a civilised way then such an option should not even be necessary......
Back to the subject at hand I personally dont want video, never have and never will (had it on the a2 and never used at all, and have a camcorder gathering dust) but that doesnt make me a Sony fanboy any more than it makes you a Nikon fanboy for wanting it. It is not inconcievable that i might end up one day with a camera that has that facility but again whether I'll use it or not is debateable. similarly I remain to be convinced that a touchscreen would be advantageous and at the moment i am struggling to see how in terms of taking pictures it would be useful. Playback may be a different issue but i cannot see the point of having a touchscreen just for that..........

Gentlemen:
It is one thing what I want from Sony and another thing what might generate the greatest sales numbers for Sony. So I use DOF on my A700 and regret this feature is not available on my A350. I love the LV on my A350 and dislike the narrow OVF field of view on thi camera. I would love an upgrade to the A700 to have a 3" LV with articulation and the ability to close focus. I am not interested in video but I realise it may come because I am in a minority (again) - it would appear.
I want a larger sensor 15-16 Mp with at least A700 v.4 high ISO performance in an A700 upgrade. That is just me. I may not get it the way I want as I am in a minority. I look at amazement at the new cameras coming out from competitors and conclude that my A700 and A350 fulfill my current requirements so the wallet stays in my pocket. I will buy an A700 upgrade if Sony will think about me and my requirements for a larger APS-C sensor, and LV with a decent OVF combined with all the current A700 capabilities including DOF. Micro adjustment of focus would obviously be a good addition. I would accept the addition of video if Sony would give me the rest of my requirements without making the price "silly".
Don, Why do you feel the need to justify your self all the time.
It should not be necessary from a person with your stated education...
Your continual justification posts only show the more educated (in Life), your deficient side.
I've used two words in the above that I feel you will need to respond to, try and ignore them.
Sonolta wrote:[ Dusty's lies and incorrect information posts are offensive! My credibility suffers? Not hardly...just a few morons decide to turn themselves off to learning you mean. Actually i think i am (incidentally i am an adjudicator by profession) I was talking about the offensiveness of your posts no other individual on this forum responds in the manner you do. If you think that dusty's posts are not accurate then say why in areasoned manner there is simply no need to go off on an abusive rant and yet you seem to delight in so doing, I know not why............

Maybe an advertising trick, the more outlandish one is the more attention one is likely to attract.
It certainly is an attention seeking manner.

I see you prefer NICENESS and LIES to HONESTY and INFORMATION! You must be like one of those liberal puke judges legislating from the bench, eh? Get a clue...you may like LIARS and LIES but I will tell you they have NO BUSINESS in a technical forum!

I guess you can't read...HE IS A (banned term) that SPEWS NONSENSE!
Yes, when it is TIME TO CALL OUT A DISENGHENOUS moron ON HIS LIES it's TIME! I don't mind keeping correcting idiots as I have been doing it for years.

Maybe you could post something on-topic instead of spamming this thread with nonsense? If you don't like the way I do things then don't read me...it's just that simple. I will not stop calling out LIARS and PHONIES (like A1000) so maybe you should start calling a few of them out and I will not need to do it so often!
-Sonolta[/quote]
What astounds me is that you really dont get it do you? Its a preference for good manners - nothing else. Resorting to calling people names (btw what is a liberal puke judge?) just shows you up patrticular when you complain about personal attacks!
