A Forum is also a source of information. I think bias or misinformation, or debates over rumors just don't help.bakubo wrote:It befuddles me why you and a few others who have complete control over what you do just keep complaining, criticizing, and ranting instead of acting. I could quote your post back to you. This is a dedicated sony forum on an alpha-orientated site, and it seems to be full of people like you, Barry and Walt (to name a few) complaining about how bad everything is and how much better it was 'in the old days', or how it would be with canikon... Well quit already then, and leave people who want to discuss the current alpha gear in peace. Or ask DK to start a dedicated 'grumpy old men' forum so you can all whinge in harmony.bakubo wrote:It befuddles me why you and a few others who have complete control over what you do just keep complaining, criticizing, and ranting instead of acting. Gentlemen, Please lower the tone. There should be space for both supporters on the new stuff and those that want Sony to keep some of the functions that they depend on for their chosen kind of photography. There is no need to get too worked up on this site. I came to this site because I did not like the "hotter" contributions on DPR.

I won't put Henry or Walt in the same bag. Walt is a good photographer with real needs, and he had invest probably more money than you and me on Minolta/Sony equipment. And Henry had to endure the wheel issue on his A700, a really annoying problem (my A700 had the same problem)mike2008 wrote:I could quote your post back to you. I never heard (read) on Walt's or Henry's posts that "you will be happy once you abandon Sony"...

Well I don't understand how your post count can be so high when you claim not to read the forum. Walt has been going on for months about how sony are catering exclusively to p&s users and that advanced amateurs will not get anything from them in the future. Henry seems to like the whole 'sky is falling' line, together with Greg. It's really, really sad, particularly in view of the fact that the A77 hasn't even been officially announced yet.pakodominguez wrote: I never heard (read) on Walt's or Henry's posts that "you will be happy once you abandon Sony"...
I appreciate alphaomega's request to lower the tone, but really it is intolerable that this forum be reduced to simply bashing and whingeing all the time.

The only thing I'm really concerned about is the flash performance mike2008, and I brought the existing A55 into the discussion as a case in point. I am concerned about some other issues as well but they are on hold until the 'A77' appears. It would be good if you could confine your posts to talking about cameras.
Greg
ps. Do you take any photos? Have a look in the 'Give it your best shot' section, there is no moaning or complaining in there, it might be more to your taste.

Me? when did I said that? witch forum are you talking about? I just FOE a couple of undesirables lately, otherwise I do read this forum.mike2008 wrote:Well I don't understand how your post count can be so high when you claim not to read the forum.pakodominguez wrote: I never heard (read) on Walt's or Henry's posts that "you will be happy once you abandon Sony"...
Walt's concern about no high end APS reflex is valid. Then, he answer(ed) almost every "attack" against his position and that create(d) a big thing. But I do share his concerns: I don't want an EVF for work, even if it is splendid! i can want it for personal stuff, or travel photography, but not for portraits or events.mike2008 wrote: Walt has been going on for months about how sony are catering exclusively to p&s users and that advanced amateurs will not get anything from them in the future. Re: A700 replacement 2011 25MP...
A55 is a model you really have to try in the hand I found the body ok (cramped controls on the right back aside) but the grip is not deep enough for my tastes and the clearance between the grip and moulding around the mount is not huge either. Of course much will depend on your own hands so it's a def pick it up and hold it job. A body half way size wise between the older bodies which were larger (A200/500 etc etc) some may say larger than you might expect and the A55 would be better. But it's not just body size alone
Small can work but the shape and feel of a grip is essential. Compared to previous models (which had better grips) you might find comfort issues with the A55 or maybe not!

I was out and shot a roll of film on the weekend and was thinking of this.. all this "feel it in the hand" stuff is really bunk. frankly if your holding a camera properly the grip side of the camer doesn't matter at all aside from buttom placement the weight and lens needs to be in your other hand. all thes shaped bodies do is make it harder from lefties and left eyed people to use them and I think mislead newbies into improper posture. I think I'd be really happy with a X700 or SRT shaped body even with big lenses

Nothing bunk about "feel in the hand" it is purely personal and nothing can beat a real hands on to try a model whatever maker. You might have liked the oldie not much grip on the MF 35mm bodies I never did they were not very secure or that comfortable only tolerable at best. Design has moved on over time and the grip got bigger, deeper and more pronounced on reflex bodies.
Yes I am left handed and left eyed so maybe that influences things though I still mock the DPR review of the A200 with the "nose job" on the AF controller! Impossible to do without almost breaking your nose off or if you happen to have a wooden one I'll concede that point. You could do it on the Km5d as it was kinda flappy the controller just one example of a review being completely ridiculous handling wise.
Back on topic I'm not the first person to say I never got along with the Canon Rebel 450/500/550d etc etc grip wise just not substantial enough and not very comfortable. The film 5 was weak here too..5d was very good A200 quite good but again not enough clearance between the grip and plastic outside the mount.
For the A55 folks will come to difference conclusions much of it down to taste some of it down to hand sizes. Still not bunk..not even close

OK, Barry, now you bring up a real problem! (Quite unlike the 'same boring old' most of the time...bfitzgerald wrote:Yes I am left handed and left eyed so maybe that influences things though I still mock the DPR review of the A200 with the "nose job" on the AF controller! Left-handedness is not a disease, it's very normal with 5-30% or so of humans, depending on the particular properties of a specific community/population. So it would be wise to produce about 15% of left-hand cameras.
I never could understand why nobody does it... So I'm with you on that one.
P.S. I'm quite right-handed.

I disagree.Javelin wrote:I was out and shot a roll of film on the weekend and was thinking of this.. all this "feel it in the hand" stuff is really bunk. frankly if your holding a camera properly the grip side of the camer doesn't matter at all aside from buttom placement the weight and lens needs to be in your other hand. all thes shaped bodies do is make it harder from lefties and left eyed people to use them and I think mislead newbies into improper posture. Since 1967 I have happily used the Minolta SRT101, XD, XE, and X570 cameras, which have no grip shape with the possible exception of a small bump on the X570 - so I am not someone who feels that "real cameras have a grip". However, even though I do not see a big advantage to a grip shape on the camera at the actual moment of pressing the shutter, I find that - at least for a right-handed person like me - the grip shape can be a major asset in carrying the camera, and in using the camera right up to the moment that I am ready to press the shutter.
I have also found that the size and shape of the grip can strongly influence whether the grip is a positive or a negative asset. I really like the grip shape of my A700, but I almost did not purchase the A330 as a birthday gift for my daughter-in-law. I had found that the size and shape of the grip section of that camera made it impossible for me to hold the camera naturally for more than 30 seconds - it was so uncomfortable in my hand that it actually fell into the category of agony. Fortunately for Sony sales, my daughter-in-law is tiny, with hands in proportion, and she did not find it uncomfortable. So the A330 became her birthday gift after all.
BTW, if you look at the first image in the thread at http://www.photoclubalpha.com/forum/vie ... =46&t=4872 you will see that she finds the grip a convenient asset for holding the camera one-handed while waiting for a photo opportunity to appear. (Although there is no way to tell from the image, she is left-handed, but the grip is a convenience even for her.)
With best wishes,
