I took a sample shot with the A900 and the 500mm Reflex. This was at F/8.0 of course, ISO 800, but 1/100th (!), and the results were amazing:

Here's a 100% crop, you can see the fibres on the thread:

Great rendition. Though not 100% size, but one can have a notion.

If I look at a 100% crop of a photo from my a900 on my 24inch monitor it seems to me that in effect I'm seeing a section of a 6 foot wide print.
Is that correct?

Your 24 inch monitor is 106 dpi if it's set to 1920 x 1200. Your 24 megapixel file is basically 6000 pixels long so divide that by 106 for inches - 56 inches plus a few extra pixels. Four foot eight, not six foot. However, if your monitor is a CRT or has a lower resolution - 72dpi CRT is like looking at 83 inches, which is almost a seven foot wide print.

Few weeks after I received my A900, i have sold my Sony 500mm Reflex. I had before the Minolta version on my A700 for a few month too.
The result is that the 500mm Mirror is a good lens for it size and weight ... but in conclusion, i prefer to bring something a little bit bigger and weight more to have good image quality. The Sigma 50-500mm at F/8.0 is far better than the Mirror lens but size it is the 100% longueur (close and 200% open), and the weight is 200% and Price is 100% higher.
Probably I'm wrong ... but i have found that this 500mm Reflex is probably not able to deliver detail for more than 12MP on Full frame.
This is probably the best shot i have been able to take with the lens one my A700 :

Hi Frank
That's quite a shot. I achieved similar ones with the A700.
One of the problems I have with the 500 Reflex is that it's so small and light that I forget that I am shooting at 500mm, and that I need a fast shutter speed. With a fixed F8, I use this lens in summer only.

Thanks David.
Because of my aged eyesight I have my monitor at 1680 x 1050 and 96 dpi . So 6000/96/12 = 5.2 feet

Thanks Don,
Yes, that's a good way of expressing it
