Today Mike Johnston wrote a Sony vs. Nikon vs. Canon comparison of the D700, the 5DsMkII and the A900 in his well renowned blog "the online photographer". While his head would decide in favor of the overall performance of the D700, he states that "if somebody put all three cameras with their respective 35mm ƒ/2 lenses on a platter and invited me to take one, I don't think I could resist the siren call of the beautiful Sony". Definitely worth reading in his pros and cons of every camera, but definitely nothing for the fanboys. More than 'Highly recommended' to read for yourself.

This is funny about the video for me, is that I'm coming from the word of Video. At 5 years old, my father put me a video camera in my hand and give me the opportunity to film. After that i have discover photography only 20 years later. For my taste, i have spend to much time on review film, make montage, and drain to much CPU of my poor PC with the first version of Premier ... That, for me, photo is a liberation for my .

But I'm agree, that it is fun some time to have movie of some special moment, almost the sound. No, i don't have kid ... but probably if i have, i will have bought a Canon or a Nikon instead of a Sony to make more versatile this big bunch or glass and metal in my hand .

But ... now at my father house, we have about 50 VHS tape of all our family history, i can even be able to see my first talk, first walk, my first anything ... , if i want to see me at 10 doing something, i will be able. But ... i take time to check all this information. In french we have and expression : Une photo vaut mille mots, probably in English is some kind of : a picture says thousand of thing ... . When you got a good picture of an event ... , you almost have the feeling and your brain can imagine the rest .... This is why I'm now addict to photography, how to make the picture represent the moment. But now ... that is to much philosophy for this forum again.

The review, say good thing about the Sony, but it is good for other camera. In my taste, yes the A900 is champion of resolution, but not even the champion at all in other aspect.

I think you haven't play with a 5DII yet. Try to get one at your local Best Buy and you'll see that video on that camera isn't that fantastic (looks great on internet but not on your Bravia...)
A friend of mine got his 5DII and came with it as my assistant for a gig a couple of weeks ago -yeah: my assistant have a better camera than me.... and I was playing a little with the camera, specially with the video: I didn't managed to autofocus on video mode (well, I always had had problems understanding Canon cameras.. since the FD mount!hiccup!)

BTW: I'm not bashing Canon, I don't care about what they do other than challenging Sony to bring a DSRL with a better video solution than Nikon and Canon, same as they did with live view, because I think I can be sooo happy filming with my Minolta glasses...

In English the expression is "a picture is worth a thousand words."

I think we have more chance Sony building a video camera for A-mount lenses than dSRL cameras for shooting montion. But, who knows?

I go back to Super 8 and the early days of video when shooting moving pictures but I do have a different take to Don on including video on a DSLR. Should I want to get back into video, I would be buying one of those smallish point and shoot shockproof/waterproof video offerings.

When selecting my next DSLR I consider that something like Intelligent Preview may at times be useful, although others will prefer the full Live View. Digital Video will not be a consideration at all. There additions to me make the camera more complex and expensive in both hardware, software and manufacturing terms. They are another potential reliability factor.

I have remember what Movie do too ... Eat battery, and drain memory space ...

Redrock is a garage-type operation, making substandard quality, unreliable equipment. Their products are used by amateurs. Pros use P+S Pro 35 - 35 mm adapters and primarily Zeiss lenses, no Nikon or Canon 35 mm stuff. Amateurs also use P+S Mini 35 adapters with Canon and Nikon lenses. The main problem with non-cine lenses is that you can't follow focus them accurately enough.

This goes very well with your face expression. I would suggest you learn something about video. Redrock really is a low quality product operation aimed towards very amateur filmmakers. But you are welcome to use their products. To each his own.

Calm down Sonolta, I know something about video, and believe me, Redrock is at the lowest level. You can go on ebay and buy similar stuff from India, same quality, same principle of rotating ground glass, which was long time ago abandoned by P+S and no one else making 35 mm adapters is doing it, except the Indians and the garage-operation Redrock. No pro would ever use any of these adapters, even amateurs shy away from them, except a few suckers, who do not know any better. You know there were a lot of Chevy Vagas sold in the US at one time. Some sockers bought them.

Sonolta, believe me, Redrock is junk. no matter how it looks. Check the Indian stuff on Ebay.

If you want to see good quality 35 mm adapters, check these two German companies:
P+S Technik and Movietube.

There is a good reason why P+S Pro 35 adapter costs 20x more than Redrock. There is a good reason why A900 costs 20x more than your hot rodded Helga.

Sonolta, one can take fantastic pictures with Helga cameras.
