The answer probably is yes. I have taken this picture with A700 and Vivitar Ser 1 90mm/2,5 macro lens (MD Mount) with HVL58
flash in wireless mode. The shot was hand held (I wish I had macro slider). In the past all I could do was use onboard
flash on my A100. This was somewhat different for me. Any suggestions to help me improve my technique or knowledge
are most appreciated.

I don't think the subject is right for such a shallow depth of field. The flower has a beautiful texture, so you might stop it down a bit more. The flash should let you do as much of that as you please, but then, I can't see any exif data to tell what's really going on.
