Metz 15 MS-1 wireless macro ring flash work with Sony a900 or does it need a camera with pop-up flash?
If not any suggestions as to a macro ring flash which will work with Sony a900 and Sony 100mm macro lens?

Yes you need a flash on the camera for it to work. it works like a sony wireless slave. I have had one on order for a long time and intended to try it but it seems to be made of vapour.
Sigma has a ring flash that has a shoe mounted controller that would work. like the metz it is only a 2 flash tube type and is roughly the same price.

It may need a flash on the camera to work wirelessly, but you can surely attach the flash to the camera and it will then work?
EDIT: Seems not, this is ONLY a wireless unit, so useless with the A900.
B&H have this flash in stock.

your right it has to have the signal from the flash to work. it's kind of a smart thing for them because just with software and the learning function this should work on any digital camera that has a flash built in. I Just found out that it comes with a clamp on IR pass filter for the onboard flash too. so your only lighting the subject with the ring and not the whole forest.
