Sony has issued an urgent recall on all a900 bodies made before January 17, 2009. There is a fault in the camera's communication with info-lithium batteries, the result of which is that the battery can overheat and, in some situations, explode. Worse yet, firmware cannot fix the fault. The complete explanation can be found on Sony.com. Enter your serial number and it will tell you whether your camera is affected. Until you know, do NOT operate your camera with third-party batteries or in temperatures above 35 degrees Celsius.
