Is it true, I cannot read Japanese? Should we worry considering that no replacement has been announced?

Thanks Sonolta, learned something new! Translation is quirky but I see nothing indicating EOL. Oh well, we'll see.

Cheers, Bob.

In-fact only 4 cameras are listed.

Yes, but then on this page the whole family is still listed. Strange!

I don't know if this link works but you have to click on the second of the 5 "regions" in the banner on top of the page.

Yesterday , while I was in a Sony Style store, the staff there seemed sure that a a700 replacement was due in Sep. 2009

Weeks before that Sony announced the a230/a330/a380 with the new 18-55 kit lens Sony Singapur showed in its website "Discontinued" to 18-70mm kit lens.
Is probably the Japanes website be announce the same with the a700.

we will probably see new camera (and A900 firmware) by September 22 because the actual system isn't ready for a "Twilight Football event" otherwise they are going straight to the wall...

The Twilight Football thing is complete crazy from an Alpha point of view. Not only is it impossible to guarantee any decent sort of pix of ten people playing footie in some odd location - regardless of the light - there is no guarantee at all that the hour after sunset on Sept 22 will be anything special, or bright enough for photography. It could be exactly like yesterday evening was here, under cloud and rain.

Also, they are completely misinformed in thinking that Sept 22 has the longest twilight period for any location on earth. Try Scotland in midsummer, or Iceland, or Norway. Some of the locations they have chosen will work OK but they would have been better off sticking to ones with large areas of water - as Murph will confirm, a beach during that hour can be very different place light-wise to a location inland.

So everybody rush out and get one! In Europe it's now <800 Euro thats terrific value for money if you can live without video and liveview. I wouldn't be surprised if the highly requested A500 (if it comes) will maybe have some nice gimmicks but less features than A700, at a higher price.
An A700 successor will probably start at $/E/GBP §1200 or even 1400.

A700 was £999 at launch, prob a little high in hindsight £850 ish would have been more logical.

I seriously doubt you will see a new one at £1300 odd, not unless sony are slapping a whole load of stuff in, full sealing, Nikon ish mega AF points..the works.

With the exchange rates not so great, it's likely to be over the last price though

Sony will announce soon 2 new P&S, the WX-1 and TX-1 both with CMOS sensor of HX-1 and could release P&S with Exmor R sensor.
Surely Sony could introduce new DSLR with new technology sensor (Exmor R APS-C) and FF low resolution sensor to that event.
