I managed to drop kick my a200 down the steps tonight (My tripod fell over to be honest). I think it's terminal. By some miracle, my lens survived.....

Not recommended practise at all, that one...high set house? or low?

Oh, that's tough - sorry to hear that!

Perhaps it's a simple fix, but that sounds like a bad tumble. These darn electronics just can't take much in the way of hard knocks.. or even soft ones at times. I hope it's an easy repair, or a closeout A200 is in the neighborhood! Good luck with the next step, whatever it may be.

Ouch! And apparently on the eve of a camera announcement, too. I hope the damage is minimal, and if not, I hope you have expanded replacement options soon!

Sorry to hear that Lonnie...I'll put a black band on my a200. Hopefully it can be fixed, or as Kevin said- maybe an upgrade.

Ah, no worries. Thank goodness it was my pack up camera and thank god it wasn't my 900 (which I have insured on a speerate rider). I do a lot of hiking/biking/skiing so the 200 was supposed to be the "knockaround" camera anyway. LOL. I got a great deal on my 200 to begin with really. Time to start crusiong ebay for a replacement. Anyone think it's worth sending into sony for them to take a look at for a repair?

Why not, at least you'll know the problem and the cost for the fix. If affordable then go for it.

I would send it in just to see what the fix would be. Is there any obvious damage?

I'll also source out a black band for my a350, and fly my Sony camera strap at half-mast.

$200 minimum for sony to repair. Ordered a new used one from adorama for $260 with the kit lens (Which I'm guessing will go on ebay....)

Seriously? Is a "new used" a200 going for just $260 these days? That's not bad for an extra 10 MP sensor to hang another lens on! Now it doesn't have the functions I'm using lately, but I could use it how I used to use my a700...
