None available - collect from store only, and if you check, no stores have them - even if you try major cities like Birmingham, London, or the whole of Scotland. Either they have all sold out or they never existed. I would have bought one just to be able to compare a current 24-105mm against the old Minolta 24-105mm and the 24-85mm I have just bought.
Thanks for the heads up but sadly no use despite a lot of searching for stores after 'adding one to my basket'.

Not sure what is going on at the Jessops' website but according to my confirmation email I have a Sony 25-105 on order with free delivery for £129. Just did this 5 mins ago after seeing the note. The lens is showing as in stock? It could all be a mix up, and there is no stock, so I'll have to wait and see.
I have been watching the Minotla 24-105 at the Jacobs eBay shop (now down to £159+free delivery), and I thought this sounded even better. £129 seemed too good to miss
Thanks to HighlandSnapper for the tip off. If this all works out I officially "owe you a pint"!

The one on ebay (Jacobs) has buy it now or "best offer"
So I would say something around £140-£145 ish might get a sale. (looking at the previous offers, rejected up to £130)
But you would be surprised at some offers, I had a lens up 5 months ago. And someone offered £20..when clearly that was ridiculous! Some folks just chance it, when best offer means, I want around this price, but will take a "bit less"

Jessop have entirely removed that page now. The Jacobs one is a used Minolta example - I would only have been interested in getting a new Sony one, in case the quality had been improved.

Somewhat predictably my order with Jessops changed to "On Back Order". I guess the in-stock status on the web site was a mistake. I've cancelled my order with Jessops and taken Barry's advice on the offer for the Jacob's Minolta 24-105, which they accepted. So Barry, I owe you a pint now

.
It looks like the Jacob's Minolta 24-105 is without a hood. Are there any 3rd party versions worth looking at?

The Sony hood is fully compatible and is available as an accessory. Increases the price a bit and I would have argued with Jacobs on that - these lenses came with hoods, for one to be missing is a £25 value lost.

The lens arrived on Thursday (Christmas Eve) which surpised me. I expected it to get delayed by Christmas etc.. As new, in box etc., but no shade (to be fair as advertised). A demo model where the shade was "mis-placed" I expect. The cheapest I can find a Sony shade is £18 on eBay. Even if I have to stump up for this I am still fairly happy with getting the whole thing for £158.
I suppose the Minolta "register now to win a digital camera" offer that is in the lens box is not of much use now?
I am trying this lens on the new A700.

It's a great lens on the A700. On APS-C I got excellent results with the 24-105mm and used it all the time. It is only weak on full frame.

I wonder why Sony stopped making the 24-105mm, maybe they will do a SAM version and the expected price increase
It was one of the better priced more affordable zooms they had, odd to just kill it off.

This lens, when introduced, was an object of jalousie for CaNikon users because the range and compactness. But on digital, It is not a good performer -I think DK is a bit optimist saying that "it's a great lens on the A700" at least my copy is soft at both ends -specially on the wide side. It was my kit lens on the Maxxum 7D. Now I'm thinking on selling it in order to finance a 24mm prime or something else -I don't know yet.
In other hand, nobody had bring a better solution on this range, the Canon 24-105 f4 IS is probably better, distortion wise, but is soft all the way. And there is a Nikon 24-120 f 3.5-5.6 that, it haven't make a dent into the Nikon's Mythology is probably because it can't even compete with the Canon version.
The rumor about the Sony 24-105 f4 G is going on for almost 2 years. I don't think they will bring it out just because the "expected price increase" but because they know that, been a perfect range for a FF kit lens (It was the kit lens for the Maxxum 7...) this Minolta/Sony incarnation won't resolve 24 MP.
