Now I am just back from Rome and during our week there I shot with several mostly low-end Nikons and Canons. Ohhh sir could you pleaassee take our picture Apparently carrying my own DSLR gives people confidence in handing over theirs to me.

What can I say These are tiny, low weight plastic bodys with bad handling and small view finders (maybe like an entry-level Sony?). Boy was I happy to have my solid and sturdy A700, no comparison to what they sell now!!

While most DSLR are still Nikon and Canon, I saw tons of Sonys as well. Stopped counting after half a day, they are out there for real! Also saw a few Olympus, but much less, and even fewer Pentaxes...

I want to visit Italy again! Italy is a beautiful country and I enjoy taking photos there. Also, so much art all around, amazing history, great food, and beautiful women. How was your trip? Show us some photos!

Yes, I have noticed that when I have a DSLR I often get asked to take people's photos. Not only with their DSLRs but also with their digicams. When I am hanging around at Waikiki I enjoy doing it. Since people always want the beach and ocean to be in the background and it is so bright I know that they are going to be pretty much silhouettes unless they are also in good light, but they often are in the shade of a palm tree or something like that. What I always do is first take a photo using the camera as it is currently set up. Pretty much 100% of the time means it is in full-auto (green square) mode. I then show them the photo and suggest that if I turn on the fill flash I can take another and then they can decide which they like better. Of course, no one knows how to adjust anything on their camera, but usually I can figure it out -- take it out of full-auto mode is necessary to make any other adjustments. Then I am careful to always put it back in full-auto mode so that the rest of their photos will be okay.

We're glad you had a good time, but come on, man! On with the photos!
