Looks like Sony have revamped the grip and sensor on the small feature challenged ones, ie. A230 and A380 and introduced a couple of new models A290 and A390, it's on the news page at dpr. http://www.dpreview.com/news/1006/10060 ... .asp#press

Sensor? Not so sure. It appears to be the same CCD as before. We have had the news up since 11am this morning, took an hour to write it up as so much was missing from their info, and still is.

New Models! Oh, wait, they're just P&S wannabes.

If you're going to cut all the features out of a camera, Sony, cut down the price tag as well. $500 and $600 for these things? Come on, the 230's are down to $399, and they have more features.

Sell these at $300 and $400, and maybe I'll buy one for the wife.

Might want to try the A230 your wife might like the grip better. I know the ladies here don't like my A200 and A700

Ah so, I forgot too check the Fotoclubalpha page. I got the impression the sensor was an uprated one for that model range, a 14MP job, but they could well have had that one before for all I know, they don't have the functionallity and battery size I would like so I only take a quick look. The main point I was getting at was, yet more basic models to confuse everyone with while the important A700 slot remains empty...

She's actually pretty comfortable with my a350, and would like to have it. However, until I get something else, no way she's getting it! I hope to be able to get an a850 soon, but may have to settle for a a550 for a while. (I'd hate to give up ISO 100).

Is is only me ? but I feel that Sony is probably the company with more different models DSLR in the past 2 years ? Canikon are more conservator with one model by line up . (I will say that is Canon with less model). Is there a race somewhere I have missing that the end for this achievement is better than other ?

Different is an interesting word. Most of the models for the last couple of years aren't really so different. Just keep rehashing pretty much the same models.

What a thrilling development..frankly I'm astonished Sony have taken every single point made and addressed all the issues! Amazing!

I've been rewarded for my scepticism with a resounding "I told you so" followed by a "Sony don't listen" chorus! Still on the bright side it appears they didn't rip out wireless flash. And my Fuji compact starts to look deeply advanced v Sony DSLR's of late..
I don't think they take the market very seriously to be honest..so in the last 18 months they were slaving away in product development trying to make these models so much better..or erm..someone fell asleeep. Sony are starting to make the Nikon entry models look "pro like" that's impressive on it's own.

BTW you can still get the odd new boxed A200 on ebay..back in the good old days when you actually got an AEL button and a few other useful bits!
