Well I thought it would be a plus for Sony to have some sort of photographic heritage, a continuation of a line so to speak, and besides how many people still exist that have a Minolta AF film camera and a couple of lenses at home half forgotten about? those surely need to know the Minolta AF mount still goes on under the Sony brand now.

You would be surprised how many do not know that Minolta lenses fit Sony cameras Gregg, even so called enthusiasts.

Why not wait to see what's cooking with the 'A77' Barry? the A55 is ok but the 'A77' might be quite a bit better.

Re: All future Alphas will be SLT!!!???
I don't get the impression that the SLT early adopters are saying that all future cameras must be EVF, but they are pointing out that the current EVF in the a55 is superior (in their opinion) to the small optical viewfinders in many entry level models... There is supposition that with a bit of development even the excellent viewfinders of the a850/900 might be matched, but I think we are a way off that yet.
Only time will tell - I think we should keep an open mind; I do remember a time when new developments such as Auto exposure and autofocus were derided.

I still have that phone not bad for a cheapie in it's day.
The problem with lower end OVF's is IMO most makers are simply not putting a lot of effort in even in comparison to budget film bodies they're nowhere near as good size wise. Now we know APS-C means smaller finders are more likely but still in this day and age we have a variety of OVF's lower down that are really below par.
Canon's "new" EOS 1100d sports a pathetic 0.80x mag 95% coverage on a 1.6 crop APS-C sensor slightly worse than the 1000d before it (0.81x)
Sony are actually among the worst offenders esp the A3xx range which are really tiny even v other not very good viewfinders in this range. A580 a mere 0.80x 95% again this is actually a bit worse than the A100/Km5d which I only barely find acceptable def not cutting it for a £600 camera IMO. Nikon are just as bad same kind of thing goes on D3100, D5000 was even worse.
Pentax not as bad bit better than most but I personally think before we declare the OVF for lower end bodies "dead" somebody might want to actually bother making a half decent one in this price range! I'd say at least 0.90x mag is needed for even lower end bodies. As far as I'm concerned models such as the 550/600d and A580 should have pentaprism viewfinders 0.95x when you hover around the £600 mark you expect that nowadays. For lower priced bodies the 0.90x Penta mirror ones would do fine.
