Has the A77 been pulled from the UK?
Found on another forum. For you in the UK do you know if the A77 has been pulled from the UK because of QC problems?

Then this one claims that the A77 was released without testing:

A reminder: This is a rumor website, but the problems that it talks about have been reported by some A77 owners.

Re: Has the A77 been pulled from the UK?
So far my camera is working normally. I have not yet tried any third party lens, only the 28-75mm, 16-80mm, and 70-300mm SSM. There are issues with the way the camera works which can lead to misuse; fairly long delays are involved in initialising processes, changing functions, and shutting down. For example, the stop-down button remains 'active' after the camera has been switched off until it completes its shutdown.
I have raised with Paul Genge two issues - old Mac software on the supplied CD, not version 4 as stated (v 3.2, will not open the files); unusual Power Save behaviour, as the main sensor and the exposure display seem to remain active when power save kicks in - I don't see how the sensor can be 'off' if it is providing changing exposure data to the top display. Waiting for responses to these.

I noticed many times, with different Sony cameras (Cybershots, Alpha or even the NEX5), that the media you use can affect initially/shutting time. Of course, using Sony Memory Stick (but not necessarily a Sandisk) make everything faster and smoother...
Are you using a SD card? What happens if you use a MS card instead?

I don't think SAR is a rumor site as much as the official Sony advertising and customer support site. It seems that Sony has hit on something here. Why bother paying for advertising when all it takes is a little "wink-wink I heard it in the men's room..."bakubo wrote:Found on another forum. Yes, I have been suspicious of that too. There are very similar websites that focus on Canon, m4/3, etc. I think that this may be just another form of marketing that the companies are using.twm47099 wrote:I don't think SAR is a rumor site as much as the official Sony advertising and customer support site. I bet you two also believe in alien abductions.
Yes there are other sites with similar structure (4/3 rumor, mirrorless rumors, k-rumors), not because there is some vast world wide conspiracy by all these different companies to have identical rumor sites, but because two friends run these sites together. They work together on html, servers and managing the sites (though SAR is run by one of the guy, and the other three sites are run by his friend).
Re: Has the A77 been pulled from the UK?
I didn't say Sony (or the others) run the sites. You sound like someone with a chip on your shoulder. Providing leaks to someone who runs a site is quite different than running a site. Sheesh.OneGuyKs wrote:I bet you two also believe in alien abductions.

Yes, maybe Sony is providing some leaks. Or maybe millions of people who work for Sony, or related companies involved in distribution, making parts, advertising, retailers, are providing the leaks, without any grand conspiracy.bakubo wrote:I didn't say Sony (or the others) run the sites. You responded to some loony comment by a poster who said SAR is "the official Sony advertising and customer support site"
with "Yes, I have been suspicious of that too."
If you guys are going to post loony conspiracy theories, don't be surprised when you are mocked for it too.

Appreciate the insult - did someone hit a nerve?
Never heard of sarcasm I see. I believe you protest too much. But when the cause of a problem like that which is affecting a flagship product comes out on a rumor site, unlike the NEX click announcement officially provided by Sony it does raise a question or two.
However, my original comment was actually intended to be complimentary to Sony (or at least to a few loose cannons at Sony.) When the A700 was announced there was no advance build up. On dpreview 2 days before the announcement there were heated discussions (any other type there?) about whether Sony would or even should release an advanced camera. Two days later big surprise.
With the A77 Sony did it right (or a couple of loose cannons did it right, wink wink.) By feeding the rumor mill for close to a year (with pretty official looking photos that some here defended to the death as having to be the real thing - wink wink) they built up a lot of excitement that will definitely increase interest and help early sales without having to resort to the expense of an ad campaign (something that Sony alpha has never shown any interest for in the US).
By leaking the reason for the A77 issues they can let people know they are working on a fix without coming out officially and admitting how they screwed up by not testing.
(And how does someone leak that much official info without Sony alpha management knowing or at least wink winking themselves.) Sony alpha managers needed the A77 to succeed big (a complete change in product direction has to have high level eyes looking over the decision makers' shoulders). Do you think they wouldn't do everything they could to make sure the hit it big (except test the final product.)

The Nex click problem was noted by users first (and SAR linked to it) long before official Sony admission.

The credit does not go to Sony. The credit goes to SAR site owner (and similarly run M4/3 site by his friend). They built the site, not just by providing rumors, but also links to reviews, news items, youtube links, amazon deals, lens review links. SAR gets more traffic than all other Alpha sites put together.
If now SAR gets *correct* inside info/rumors, maybe that is because the "leakers" know SAR has huge web traffic. Sony has nothing to do with it (good or bad). The credit goes to Andrea who made it an interesting and informative site so that thousands visit it daily. SAR gets "leaks" because it has traffic. It has traffic because it's well run & interesting site. You are giving credit to Sony now. Why?
A700 launch was blotched? Too bad there was no SAR back then (and again the credit doesn't go to Sony but to the individual who runs SAR).
Re: Has the A77 been pulled from the UK?
That is a definitive statement. Go ahead and prove it. By the way, are you the guy who runs SAR? Are you someone high up in Sony?OneGuyKs wrote:If now SAR gets *correct* inside info/rumors, maybe that is because the "leakers" know SAR has huge web traffic. If you have any understanding of basic logic, you would know that one who makes a positive assertion must prove it. If you conspiracy theorists are claiming there is grand conspiracy by Sony (and Panasonic, and Oly) behind SAR and 43rumors, that is a positive claim.bakubo wrote:That is a definitive statement. I guess you do really believe in alien abductions after all.
Re: Has the A77 been pulled from the UK?
OK first of all, I would not and did not withhold credit from the individual who runs SAR - Now I'm sure he feels so much better.OneGuyKs wrote: If now SAR gets *correct* inside info/rumors, maybe that is because the "leakers" know SAR has huge web traffic. But " maybe that is because the "leakers" know SAR has huge web traffic. Sony has nothing to do with it."
Illogical statement. Sony (along with every large corporation) has NDA agreements with all of its employees. Sony doesn't provide that level of detail and photos to people outside of Sony on unannounced products without having a legal NDA with them. If the info is being leaked by parties with NDA's and Sony hasn't taken action to stop it, it is because they (alpha managers) are aware and approve otherwise it wouldn't happen twice. - So credit goes to Sony.
