It is possible that the Sigma may not work with the A77 as delivered. It is likely that Sigma and Sony will fix the problem but this may involve firmware upgrade from Sony, and a trip back to Sigma for the lens. It may do no harm to try the combo, but you also may risk locking the camera up, so it is a high level risk. I suggest switching the order to Sony 70-400mm SSM G if you can afford it.

The newer cameras available in Hong Kong are already shipping with FW 1.03

Unfortunately its on the way, I'm new to Sony cameras, will there firmware 1.03 correct the problem with their Sigma lens, if the camera locks up can it be reset on the camera or does it need to be returned to Sony, unfortunately I know very little about Sony Alpha cameras only the reviews of read, if I had known of the problems I would have bought the Sony lens, but I used to use Pentax K5 with Sigma lenses and found them to be very good, I hope this problem will be sorted out or I will be very upset with Sony and Sigma,as this equipment is very expensive.

ashleyboy123, I suggest you contact both Sigma and Sony and enquire if you will experience any problems with this combo before you mount the Sigma lens and switch on the A77.

I spoke to Sony and Sigma neither could guarantee that the lens will work, so I've cancelled the a 77 and the Sigma lens after Sigma informed me that there company I brought from is hong kong based simple electronics if the lens needed to be re-chipped it would have two go back to simple electronics and would not be done in the UK, I'm very disappointed as the a 77 looks a very good camera, are stick with my Pentax K5 tell their some guarantee that Sony and Sigma will work together, I'll keep reading this forum to see how their firmware update works and hope that Sigma announces something soon.

If you have already paid Simply Electronics, even with a credit card, you may find it takes some time and effort to get your refund. It took me four months the only time I ever dealt with them, before I knew they were a grey importer pretending to have a UK office (they do not, only people who answer the phone for them). They did pay up, but by cheque, as they had no proper credit card facilities and were using a third party to process cards - which meant I was unable to get a normal refund, or even claim through the card company.

I paid by PayPal so hopefully it's might be easier, I'll keep my fingers crossed.
