creative styles/zone matching

does anyone use these? I was surprised that some of them impact the raw files. in particular the zone matching except I think all it's doing is affecting the way the meter works is that so?

so it actually does something to the file? I swear I had to reset my exposure after turning it on. I just tested a dark scene. to get balanced exposure with -1 set shutter was 1/5 with 0 set i had 1/8 shutter and with +2 set I ha 1/15 shutter. did this in M mode.. is that right?
