The boat which features in the ultrawide 17mm shot above (see Lens Forum - http://www.photoclubalpha.com/forum/vie ... f=27&t=925) is here photographed as a detail shot using the 28-75mm D. Once again, used at a moderate aperture as would normally be expected, the results are near-perfect. No CA correction has been applied to this raw conversion, at all. Apart from some strong fine detail sharpening to suit the texture of the old paintwork, it's a straight default conversion with highlight recovery at 50 and shadows at 0.

The more of these pix I process, the more I'm getting to like the Alpha 900 and feel happy that I kept the full-frame lenses.

Aha, that's good to hear.

Seeing those wonderful samples here I am more than glad that I kept mine - in spite of now mostly using a 17-70 as the walkaround lens. The image quality from the A900 seems to be great, as it was to be expected.

David - apologies if I've missed examples in other threads, but have you tried the 24-105 on the A900 much yet ?

...curious as I use one on the Min5, and of course the Sony version's been available all this time without a body to do it justice...

Yes, I have used it, and put it back in the cupboard. The distortion is much too strong for my liking, and the CA is hard to correct. Good things - it's very sharp. But that is about the only positive comment. It does not focus close enough, close-ups are difficult relative to using it on APS-C, and all the distortion and CA which happens is outside the APS-C area. So, it's a great lens on the A100-700 series but not wonderful on the A900.

Thanks - I had hopes, but I guess it'll just stay on the film cameras - it was on the A100 for a while when I first got it, but your 18-250 'lives' on that now, lol !
