The way I see it, DOF does and does not change.
Don, I think we should explain more so that people reading this forum might get a better understanding.
Suppose you are shooting a subject of 30 x 20 cm. On a APS-C you need more subject to camera distance than from a FF camera just to fill the frame, of course using the same lens on both cameras. And if doing so, you are already changing the DOF.
But if you shoot the same subject with 2 cameras (APS-C and FF with same lens) with same camera to subject distance, then cropping the FF picture to match the APS-C one, you will have the same DOF.
This has a different side too. Whenever you want to repeat the shots linked in this thread with APS-C camera (same frame, but from a farther distance) your DOF will definitely change. So you have to use a lens with a wider angle than the one used, which brings you to a greater DOF (lenses with wider field of view have a greater DOF than a lens with a narrower field of view. Make no mistake, same lens on APS-C and FF have different field of view, but that comes from the camera and not the lens. So that you don't get it wrong, let me put this with an example: a 35mm/1.4 FF lens has a wider field of view than a 85mm/1.4 FF lens, thus the former has greater DOF than the latter if used with same apertures, e.g. f/5.6 ).

Dr. Harout: As it is not easy at all to pick up the general principles (about depth of field) from a few examples, I think it could be useful to complement your explanations by stating those general principles. But as the theory of depth of field has nothing to do with “A900 Sample Photos”, I’ll post it in another thread (http://www.photoclubalpha.com/forum/vie ... f=21&t=976).
