Hate! And have never heard from someone he likes it. Maybe someon who doesn't own any Sony lenses might think it looks ok. But as soon as you take your lens out of the box, magically all dust in your home seems to converge on that rubber grip :?

Oops...I accidently voted "don't care". Please change to "love 'em". I have two: SAL-1118 and SAL-70400G.

Hi,

I voted 'don't care either way' but to be truthful, I never had problems with the ribs collecting dust particles. Maybe only one or two but never in the sense of being visually getting disturbingly filthy, and I do go out into dusty, windy conditions to shoot. It may be so for me because I always support the lens with the palm of my left hand which may be covering it partially throughout the shoot and it always is in the bag between the shoots; I don't let it hang down with a sling around my neck, therefore it's not exposed to external conditions if not shooting.

Sony lenses only collect as much dust as the Tamron lens that I own.

I now own 2 sony lenses with the fine ribs. And this has made clear they aren't all the same.

The 70-200 has sharp ribs that are fairly deep. But the 16-80 has more rounded, and shorter ribs. Also the 16-80 rubber doesn't seem to have the same give or tack to it as the 70-200.

While the 70-200 is bad, the grips on the 16-80 aren't as bothersome. They still collect debris, but not as bad.
