Very great composition Tom, I like the story behind this technology invasion ... , this picture could be use for a front page of a magazine like Green Peace or other.

If you have took the picture in RAW, you might be able to erase a little bit the flash effect on the tree.

Thanks, Birma. That description is very close to what I was attempting to do with the image, although I might have phrased it slightly differently.

If I were to shoot it again, I would wait until it was somewhat darker, to make the tree stand out with greater contrast against a darker hillside that is about 800 meters behind it. I would also shoot the image several times with differing f-stops to have a better chance of getting the "stark" look that I wanted. On the camera's LCD, the image actually looked much, much closer to what I was attempting to capture than it appears here and on my computer, and I forgot to bracket the exposure as a precaution.

I did shoot in RAW, and might be able to use post-processing to get closer to what I want, but it looks like that might take a lot more work than the result would be worth to me. For me, the most important thing is that I can probably do a better job with the camera the next time I have a somewhat similar goal.

Not sure I want to join this challenge as the competition is tough and some super pictures have already been uploaded. Anyway here is a lovely picture of a solitary tree in Perthshire Scotland in October with the full plume of rusty colours on display. I hope you all like it. It was taken with my DSC-R1 some years ago.

That's a good selection of a rather crooked tree against the brutal verticality of the antenna towers that invade the hilltop.

Your method of shooting as explained in your second post is also would produce a striking image. Also, going as low as the ground surface to shoot while the only available light is that of the sunset to produce dark silhouettes of both the tree and the towers might work-depending on the provided angle which is suposed to outline the tree's shape.

There really are many possibilities to shoot this particular scene and all are worth going for.

The fact that some of the branches of the tree are cut off and lying around also is also worth thinking about.

Nothing like a bending-over tree with abundance of beautifully coloured leaves on the top of a hill. Just imagine sitting and lying under it and viewing the valley below that reaches up to create this hill.
