Challenge #53:"Salmon Fishing In The Ye.."-Winner: Bakubo

Hi everyone, :D

Our newest challenge is entitled "Salmon Fishing In Yemen", emphasis being on fly- fishing. : )

"Salmon Fishing In The Yemen" is actually the title of a book and a 2011 movie directed by Lasse Hallström with the Scottish actor Ewan McGregor and British actress Emily Blunt in the leads where the two deliver a most down-to-Earth acting, making the on-screen characters 'real' and tangible to the viewers. I personally was caught in the most natural delivery of acts from Ewan McGregor to date, though I would not hesitate to praise his natural grip on his other on-screen characters' peculiarities to date; a natural talent for sure. Same thoughts would encircle Emily Blunt's acting making this movie funny, lifting and heartful against the tangles of a political plot.

And I asked myself, "Why not go Salmon Fishing" in the forum too?" : ) We have fly-fishing lovers who go out to their rivers with their rods, embrace the environment, the scortching hot weather, the cold, freezing conditions, hours of patiently waiting in their authentic fishing attire or sometimes with nothing more than a branch and a simple rope hanging from its end like one Tom Sawyer, sitting lazily on a piece of rock.

Let's go fishing in our own 'Yemen' and let's 'cast' our photo frames this time to catch those who are fishing. : )) Don't forget to include yourselves in the shots if you fish yourself.

Good luck! Bonne Chance!

Yildiz

This is more of a fishing on "fly" (spur of the moment) than fly fishing per se.
This gent was dropping the line about 100M+ into rough ocean to catch some
fish. At that time all I had was 24-70 and this is the best I could get. I wanted
to show the context of his fishing and therefore did not switch to my 70-400.
At Wilder Ranch State Park, Santa Cruz, California near Ohlone Bluffs beach.
The yelp photos are not mine but just to give you a bit more context. Mine are
coming soon to give it your best shot thread. :D

A great starter, Sury! :D Bravo!

I see what you mean about the context of his fishing. Quite a drop down that is. I wonder how the fish react and if any fish caught on that line will it survive the the seagulls searching for ready food?

Amazing colours and light, Sury. :)

Good time of the day for the shooting. Love the hill coasting the water that creates beautiful reflections. Hopefully the father and son bonded over a fish too. :D

Thanks for sharing. Keep them rolling in! : ))

Here is an image that was unanticipated. Not long after I acquired my NEX-6, I installed an old manual focus Olympus 100mm f:2.8 lens on the camera and went for a walk in Central Park. My intention was just to do some shooting of whatever looked interesting that might test the performance of the lens/camera combination. I saw this scene and could not resist the both the fisherman's preparations for the sunny weather and the chance to see how well the reeds would show up when I pixel-peeped the image

Here is the full image, followed by a crop of the scene that I did to look at the lens performance. Looking at the fisherman's gear, I think that he is definitely one of the people that Aster speaks of who go fishing regardless of the weather.

Saw this chap wandering through the resort in Mauritius. It was his wellington boots that caught my attention. They seemed out of place on an idyllic Indian ocean isle but very necessary to protect the feet against the sharp coral lurking just below the surface. From time to time he would wade in a little deeper until the water covered and filled his boots.

Very nice entries, Tom and Ossie. :)

Good finds of interesting fishermen. Neat bright colours and the fisherman wants to protect the ears and face from the harsh lights of the Sun which is an important issue I suppose.

I linked the photos to their original sized ones for better viewing in the thread. I hope you don't mind since they only appeared as thumbnails which is due to forum's new set up, I guess.

Looking great, Sury. :)

I think that's pretty much what any Salmon fisher would do in Alaska. The water must be freezing but the colour and the translucency is amazing. Even if nothing caught at the end of the day, this is a zen place to ease the mind and empty the head of all daily mishmash.
