Hi everyone!
Here I am with an other challenge before the Summer and its 'fairy-winged insects' are over. The idea was inspired by a Dragonfly that landed on the antenna close to my window. It was basking under the Sun to dry itself after getting soaked during a short rain shower in Istanbul the other day.
(Starter shots are shot with my Sony HDR-550 camcorder in macro mode. Apologies for the busy background)
For Challenge #58:"Fairy Wings", we'll look for those sensationally gorgeous, lacey, fragile, glass-like wings of insects and bugs that you enjoy photographing. Dragonfly, Butterfly, Locust, Cicada, Wasps, etc. are all suitable with their very intricate fairy wings.
*..The patterns on the wings should be visible and the structure readable; wing span, cross veins, folds, lobes, the wing-pigmentation patterns are required to show and be readable.
Looking forward to your entries.
Good luck,
Yildiz
Specifications:
1/..The challenge runs through 13 August 2015- .... September 2015. (You can submit photos taken earlier)
2/..The size of the photos should be ~250 KB and dimensions ~1024*1024. (Images larger in size and dimensions may be resized by the forum software if linked and rejected if uploaded using forum attachment feature. This renders the image into a mere link that can be opened in an other tab. If you want your photo to show in the thread, which is preferable, please comply with the size and dimension requirements.)
3/..You can submit as many photos as you like.
4/..It would be nice if you titled/captioned your photo to make addressing and recognition easier. : )

Re: Challenge #58:"Fairy Wings of Insects"-submissions until 20 September 2015
Sensational shots Yildiz. Makes me wish I had a macro lens.
Not many Fairy Winged insects passing thru here lately.!
Generous time allowed so I might get lucky.
Looking forward to seeing posts from our talented photographers.

Thank you, David. You're just too kind !
Macro lenses aren't essential to capture a neatly detailed insect and its wing, I believe. Hope you get a chance to encounter one tiny bug that's willing to display its wings for you.
Let's wait and find out what time has in store...
Good luck !

A question by the way of clarification. Do the photos have to be taken during the challenge period or can I submit
photos taken previously?
Sury
photos taken previously?

otherwise and I will delete it.

Hi Sury,
Thank you very much. We're all winners at some time or an other and your judgment is invaluable. It's nice to get friends' approval. : )
You can submit photos taken earlier than the challenge start date. I have just made the necessary change in the Specifications of the challenge. Thanks for the inquiry, Sury.
Sury, I deleted one of the messages that you posted twice: The "Tall Tail" shot.
These shots are very good. The butterflies' wings have eyes that are looking at me. : )
Thanks for sharing,
Yildiz

Yildiz,
Thank you and that is absolutely fine. I did not realize I posted it twice. Thanks for taking care of my oversight.

Re: Challenge #58:"Fairy Wings of Insects"-submissions until 20 September 2015
Just happened that this past week a few "bugs" around my house and garden caught my attention. Had to try and get some images. Here are the results.
A77 + Sigma 105mm macro
Found on the ceiling early hours of one morning when I had been working on some images.
A77 + Sigma 105mm macro + Flash
A77 + Sigma 105mm macro
Unpleasant name for an interesting fly

Nice entries, Ossie.
The name of the Flesh Fly may sound unpleasant but it is a fact that this particular fly species, lays its larvae under the flesh of other animals and inside other insects, especially carrions. The particular behavior of this fly, laying its hatched larvae in carrion, helped date the death time of the subject in inspection. It helps in forensic studies sometimes. Apparently this fly is the only one that behaves that way and can be dangerous causing infections, when meat infected by them is consumed.
(From the Wikipedia:"Flesh flies can carry leprosy bacilli and can transmit intestinal pseudomyiasis to people who eat their larvae. Flesh flies, particularly Wohlfahrtia magnifica, can also cause myiasis in animals, mostly to sheep, and can give them blood poisoning, or asymptomatic leprosy infections.")
Thanks for sharing,
Yildiz
