Unread post by aster »

.

Welcome to our other challenge with a more seasonal touch: "We're Going Autumnal !" : )

Following in the footsteps of earlier years, Challenge#60 is all about the Autumn season we're observing in the Northern Hemisphere at the moment.

What the challenge requires:

The change of colours on leaves, special landscape shots that depict autumnal features, autumn fruits, festivities, events, games and everything you can think of that pertains to autumn. :)

Looking forward to your autumnal impressions as photos. : )

Good luck to everyone who wish to contribute.

Yildiz

Specifications:

1/.. Challenge #60 runs through 12 Nov 2015-13 Dec 2015. (still open to submissions until evaluations)
2/.. The dimensions of the photos should be equal to or smaller than 1024*1024 and the size should be equal to or smaller than 250 KB for the photo to show in the thread. If larger dimensions and size, the photo will be resized by the forum software into a mere link and your photo will not be visible directly in the thread but will opened in a new tab. Please adhere to the forum's requirements to make them show in the thread. Thanks.
3/.. You can submit as many photos as you like that you think fits in the context of the challenge.
4/.. Please entitle you photos with an appropriate title to make addressing and recognition easier.

Thanks! : )

San Jose, CA is not exactly a Fall Colors Capitol but I found the this to be reasonably dramatic withing the context of where we live.

Hi Sury; : )

The colour of that tree on the right is incredible. Thanks for sharing.

A question emerges due to my curiosity: Is the background out of focus due to post-processing or lens aperture (depth of field) or lens type and range?

It is taken with the vaunted CZ 135 f 1.8. I think the aperture was set at 2.8 or 4. Will check and validate later today when I go home.Because it is not at 1.8 the bokeh is not as smooth as one expects, me thinks.

Top left and near-top right provide the autumn colour..... Algonquin in Canada.
Taken with my Minolta XM on Fujicolor 100 ASA. No idea of what lens, aperture or shutter speed.

Image

Again with the Minolta XM. Kew gardens, London. Still no idea of what lens, aperture or shutter speed but I always used either Fujicolor or Fujifilm ASA 100.

Thank you for the information, Sury. :)

I think the amount of info that you already provided is sufficient. I only wanted to know the cause of blurry bokeh.

.......................

Hi Cogito; : )

I don't know if it's my computer but I don't see the photos that you uploaded. I see only two boxes instead.
Could you see if your photos are linked or uploaded correctly, please? I believe that we're denied access...maybe it's not public?

Thanks,
Yildiz

Hi Tony;

Unfortunately your photos don't show.
Below is a screen capture of what we see when we see your message: two empty boxes where the photos should be.

Yildiz

I can't see them either in both the posts. Just reaffirming Yildiz's observation.

With best regards,
Sury

A couple of more shots.

Living in San Jose, California, it has always been frustrating that I have to drive 5-6 hours east to enjoy fall colors.
Even then, had to keep track of changes and often had to go on a short notice, hence did not do it. And then I
found these right in front of the house as they have been for the last 20 years or so we have been living. It is the
challenge that made me to relook at things and here are the results. Not necessarily the glorious fall colors one sees
in typical photos but here they are holding their own, I believe.

The one below is very simple and minimal. There is the tree and then there is sky.
Image

The second is to me making the statement I am different and I am proud of it
Image

The one below is capturing the "busyness" of different colors and shapes with some in focus and others not...

If you can indulge me one more this is my most favorite (and flickr uploader dropped it for unknown reasons).

I love the layering of the colors and though it was not visualized that way (I wish I did) but looking at it the first
thing that struck me is the layering.

I've edited the original posts. Unfortunately the images were viewable in my preferred browser - Opera - but not in other browsers. I hope they're visible now......

Tony,
I can see them now in twice. And they are twice as nice. Both are absolutely top notch in my book.

They are visible now, Tony. Thank you for fixing the accessibility issue. : )
Not everyone uses as many browsers, or Opera for that matter. I was trying to view on Internet Explorer...

The photos look very interesting...

Thanks for sharing,

Thanks, Sury! Out of your images my favourites are #2 and #4. I personally find it difficult to NOT over-exaggerate the colours...
And no, no, no, I'm not suggesting that you've done that! Having said that I did take this in Algonquin - I think there's more than one tree involved!

Image

But this is one of my all-time favourites - shot on the way to Yosemite

Image

and I admit it's been modified to lighten the lights and darken the darks.....
As with the other images these were taken with my Minolta XM. I used Fujifilm or Fujicolor ASA 100. And my 2 favourite lenses were a Soligor 35-150 zoom and a Sigma 18mm. So take your pick.....ImageImage
