Spyder 3 Express / Pro / Elite

Unread post by cenwyn »

Hi everyone,

After some advice on what hardware/software I should be buying to calibrate my inexpensive LCD monitor - need to ensure that what I see on the screen will be printed!

Is Spyder the best choice? And if so, will their entry level suffice for me?

Thank you as ever.

Regards.

The Spyder's entry level offer is good enough for basic monitor calibration on a PC. I have one and it works perfectly. I installed an update on my new computer with Windows & and I can use the devise on both stations.

Remember that there are little difference in the hardware since you will be mostly paying for the software: if what you got is not enough (because you're adding a second screen or so) you can always update the software.

Do you print at home, or you are sending your pics to a photolab?

Regards
Pako

Good:

Download the ICC profiles for the paper you'll use and softproof your files before printing.
Here, an article about softproofing: http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read. ... e=27922167

Spyder3 Express arrived yesterday and my LCD monitor is now calibrated! I have to say that I couldn’t believe how blue the tone was before! Amazing to see the difference.

Now I have to try and understand how to upload this setting into Photoshop so that when I select to print to my HP printer it will use the colour tones I see on my monitor. That dpreview forum link looks daunting!

Once I have solved that puzzle, then I to understand what I need to do when I take them to be printed. I’m assuming that I also take the settings file with me to the printers.

Thank you Pako for your help.

Kind regards,
Cenwyn.
