NEX 3 with 18-55 compared to A450.

Unread post by LABE »

Hi all. I have the A450 with several lens. I`m tempted with the nex3 as i can get one for £319 with kit zoom. Just wondered how the nex compared to the A450 as far as IQ and colour reproduction. Cheers Paul UK

Pretty much identical for quality - you will see no significant difference either way. But if you get the kit zoom only, you are really missing out. With the 16mm f/2.8, the NEX becomes so pocketable that I now take mine everywhere, and the A55/580 choice is left behind. With the kit zoom, that is just not the case.

Of course if you want to start shooting HD video, the choice is a good one regardless.

And the price is excellent.

I can't speak for a450, but I can compare to a550. In case they share the same sensor assy, the comparison may still apply.

The Nex results may look much sharper than the a550's. The Nex LPF is way too relaxed and may cause a lot of aliasing artifacts including strong haloes from even moderate sharpening.
The a550, on the contrary, had a very conservative properly designed LPF. Its results really can be processed for much cleaner edge detail at the same level of overall sharpness than the Nex's ever may.

(BTW, the a500 also had an LPF overly relaxed, quite unlike the a550.)

Thanks for replying to my post. I`m hoping to get the nex this wk. Will also try and get the 16mm lens to go with it. Cheers Paul UK
