NEX as a gateway to the World's interchangeable lenses

Unread post by alphaomega »

I was noticing on Sonyalpharumors.com that a variety of third party adapters have been, well rumoured.
First pictures of the L39 to E-mount adaptors (prototype version)
Rayqual and Novoflex will soon release NEX adapters
These will cover L39 lenses as well as Nikon, Leica R, Minolta MD /MC, Canon FD, Pentax K, Contax/Yashica and M42. I can imagine that these adapter makers can see the potential of the NEX system with a 14Mp APS-C sensor. So maybe even Walt Knapp may find use for a NEX, in particular if the rumoured NEX7 materialises with more manual control and a decent EVF. It will be interesting to watch how this whole NEX thing pans out. Us old hands brought up on MC/MD may even be able to use some of our old lenses collecting dust. Need to get back on to doing manual focusing. I used to think that for my kind of photography A mode or manual metering and manual focusing was the only way to do things.
If I bought one of these NEX things I might even be able to fit a Tokina 16.5-135 I am longing for to use on my Alpha cameras.

NEX has a long way to go to fit my work. And as far as adapters where's the adapter for current Canon Lenses? That's the one that might interest me as I could then use the MPE-65 1x-5x Canon macro lens. Of course the camera would have to have a Sony/Minolta hotshoe to run the macro ringflash for a start.

The NEX is a rather limited camera no matter how many adapters you can hang on it.

I'll be more interested when the gateway to the world's lenses can work with the world's strobes. If not for that puzzlingly proprietary flash attachment, I'd have pre-ordered a NEX-5 already.

If nothing else, it should at least work with Alpha flashes wirelessly. Why doesn't it? (Or, why bother calling it Alpha?)

I think having a flash at all with the NEX-3/5 is just a tick on the features list. In my opinion a set up triggering external flashes is really not the type of the photography these models are designed or suited for.

Majority of people going to do this type of work already have a suitable DSLR for it. These models are more for basic photography, consumer style without necessity of performing specialized photography...and as a portable secondary unit for more experienced photographers with more feature-laden cameras at their disposal.

Future models which are larger and have more capabilities will probably be at the ready to replace some folks DSLRs but these are at the moment just very capable portable camera replacement options.

Seen in this light, the cameras they are replacing and greatly surpassing, also never had the ability to trigger external flashes or mount more capable primary flashes.

I am sure there will be an external flash adaptor soon enough. It is quite useful for macro and applied work like microscope (photomicrography) setups where the NEX will be an extremely useful camera. It is possible, with the NEX as it stands, to trigger many types of external flash including Elinchrom BR Xi and D-Lite 2nd generation models.

Pako and i ( and I believe a few others) have stated before that we want a system to take our old MC/MD lenses/ This, however doesn't cut it/

I would like an x700 with a digital sensor - something I can use all my old lenses and flashes with to the utmost of their ability.

Adapters, no flash, APSC all don't really give me what I want..

I think you will never give a digital life to your old flash system. Having the NEX working with the actual wireless system will be a big step.

Unless Sony gave the A200 series for free (or so) to Seagull or other maker, we won't see a digital MC/MD mount camera. If we can convince Sony to convert the actual E to A adapter to an E to MD/MC adapter (with the aperture control) we can consider ourselves "lucky".

Sony will probably bring an adapter for hotshoe (Minolta like and/or regular one) and they will expand the system -accessories are a little expensive to make but manufacturers make a lot of money from them!

Heart skips a few beats

Displaying some of those photos on my big screen TV right now and loving it. Also on the big screen, trying out some of the other RAW samples available online from various lenses that I converted with Silkypix...beautiful. All of the p&s talk goes out the window when you open your mind and look at some of the new doors that have been opened. For digital street photography there is absolutely no competition with any camera/system even remotely close to the money spent.

The Nikon-NEX adapter interests me - the thought of adding a Nikon TS lens. I guess then we could call the NEX a view camera :^) and maybe with a focusing cloth I could use it :^(
