Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM working ?

Unread post by InTheSky »

I looking for a less expensive alternative to the Sony Nex 18-200mm and also possibility to use it on future A77, so I was wondering if any have test the auto focus if it is working on the NEX with the LA-EA1.

thanks,

frank

Hunts and fails. Can just about be persuaded to work under some conditons, can not track focus in video, and the focus change is simply much too fast for the system to control it properly.

thanks for the lightning speed answer :-).

Hope to have alternative in the future, or more Sony NEX 18-200 used on the market :-).

I have a renewed interest in that question now that the LA-EA2 converter will become available later this year. I plan to purchase this device. The problem with my Sony 18-250 is that I lose SSS on my NEX-5. That is a loss when shooting video I have found to my cost when switching off on my A580 in wind. The new Tamron 18-270 is of no use either as Tamron in their wisdom have removed VR from their Sony version. (How stupid in view of the LA-EA2 introduction). That leaves the Sigma 18-250 with VR in the Sony version as the only viable zoom for my type of video providing AF and VR. I do hope that David Kilpatrick will acquire the LA-EA2 and carry out some tests with his Sigma. Not keen on Sony SEL18200 due to size and weight, not to mention price.

Unless you need a 1 lens solution, why not just get the 55-210 OSS E-mount? It's only about $300 US and comes with OSS...
