New NEX manual & firmware update 'leaked' on Sony websites

Unread post by DrScottNicol »

Various reports of hidden pages detailing amongst other things..
- NEX C3 manual on Cz Sony website but password protected
- A manual (that is password protected) for an a35
- List price of a 30mm Macro E mount lens going for around 259 euros on French website
- A manual for v4 NEX firmware update for NEX 3 and 5. Many are assuming this will be the version that comes preloaded on the NEX c3 updated model.

I downloaded a copy of the firmware manual and it looks legit. Some fancy photo effects for jpegs (Toy camera, selective colour, high contrast b&w etc) plus, of much more interest to me, a new manual focussing aid called 'peaking level' - the in focus parts of the live view display change colour as you manually focus.

The fact that these things have been uploaded to Sony's website (albeit not for public display yet) suggests at least some of the above are imminent (i.e. next month or so).

I like that there's actual model numbers for the NEX-C3 and 30mm lens Mock-ups. Fake kit anybody?

It looks legit to me - that web link is owned by Sony of Canada (I checked the IP address on Whois) and entering the product codes comes up with a product description rather than just an error - I just tried it and got the following details
......

Model Model Description Product Category Warranty Period MSRP*

SLTA35K SLTA35K WITH 18-55MM LENS 4W DI-R 12 months NOT AVAILABLE
SEL30M35 E-mount 30mm F3.5 Macro 4W 24 months NOT AVAILABLE
NEXC3KB NEXC3KB with 18-55mm Lens 4W DI-R 12 months NOT AVAILABLE

interestingly a search for SEL brings up the other NEX lens (16, 18-55 and 18-200) PLUS 'Mock up' versions of those lenses and a further lens called SEL30M28MOCK - an F2.8 version as well? or a typo / prototype that didn't make it.

Further snooping reveals a
SAL1024 ZZ 10-24mm F3.5-4.5 Lens DI-R 24 months NOT AVAILABLE
Is this a deleted product - has sony ever done a 10-24mm? Or perhaps a rebadged / restyled tamron wide angle perhaps?

Downloaded a copy of the SLT a35 manual.. in polish.
Appears to have 16MP sensor, has the same jpeg effects listed in the NEX firmware upgrade above.

I saw a curiously similar listing immediately below a similarly specified lens which is already in production:

SAL30M28 DT30mm F2.8 Macro SAM 4W DI-R 24 months $ 249.99
SAL30M28SAM ZZ DT30mm F2.8 Macro SAM 4W DI-R 12 months NOT AVAILABLE

This happens in more than one place, always with the warranty period at 12 months rather than 24 months. They also assert that the 70-300G lens is an APS-C only design:

"SAL70300G DT 70-300MM F4.5-5.6G Lens 4W DI-R 24 months $ 874.99"

link to the pdf is below the video, just before the comments section - it was broken for a while but appears to be fixed again.

I Liked the posterized look on the Dimage 7Hi and A2, I used to set the camera on RAW+JPG saving the jpg with the effect and the RAW for "serious" work. I'm happy they are binging it back to the NEX -at least as a rumor...

The peaking level looks promising also. I hope it fully works with non coupled lenses.

I will have a NEX-C3 with 18-200 E Zoom kit when Sony makes an offer here in UK I cannot refuse and Adobe see themselves fit to include in LR and ACR. One NEX with the pancake and converter and the other with 18-200 zoom. Wow :P :P

I am impressed with the quality of NEX-5 videos but not the sound. Need to study DK's writings about NEX and video and get an external mike.

I haven't seen anyone mention the 30mm on other sites. I guess the FW update has all of the attention? I was hoping for the 55-200 first, but the 30mm might be OK too. :-) Is f3.5 going to be good enough? The price sounds about right. I think it'll be a nice alternative for many who want a smaller Nex and aren't fond of the 16mm....
