Hi everyone,
I have a "strange" request. I'm wondering if anyone makes a remote IR trigger for a nex. Specifically a trigger that will fire the NEX when something breaks the IR beam. My parents have been having trouble with someone vandalizing their property, and while they have security cameras installed, the guy always strikes at night, and they are of too low resolution to be of any real use.
My idea is if I can install a NEX in a waterproof housing with a IR trigger, we might be able to finally get some detail on who this guy is. I know I could extract enough detail out of the RAW file to get a license plate number, facial features, etc.
Any help/ideas/suggestions taken. Thanks.

Re: Remote Trigger for NEX?
You could maybe wire a trigger into a regular remote, or simply use motion sensing instead. The main problem would be keeping the camera awake, an AC adaptor supply would be needed. The Seculine Zigview Live just plugs into the HDMI feed from the NEX, and it can be set to trigger the camera (some kind of adaptation would be needed, as the NEX had no remote socket) by detecting movement within the image frame.

There will be distributors in any regions this is just the UK page. It would work directly with an A33 or A55 as these have a remote socket. A special cable is needed which Zigview do, for the Minolta/Sony remote plug.

In lieu of sitting up all night with a loaded gun (I would), you could install a fer automatic lights that would illuminate the area enough for the current security cameras to capture a good pic.

Re: Remote Trigger for NEX?
They do have some automatic lights there Dusty. The problem with that approach is that the sensitivity of the security cams is slow to react and it generally washes everything out. Rather than use the NEX, I'm thinking that this might be a good project from my (soon to be retired when the A77 comes out) A200. Something like this...Dusty wrote:In lieu of sitting up all night with a loaded gun (I would), you could install a fer automatic lights that would illuminate the area enough for the current security cameras to capture a good pic.
