I'm only planning to get a 7 in a few weeks, so can't really comment.

But I find it rather amazing that a series of single-press test snaps in bad mixed artificial light comes out all in perfect focus using 16mm @f/2.8...

No they haven't. Restart you OS in 32bit mode, or just use a Windows machine.

Got it installed with no issues, other than having to restart my computer twice just to update camera firmware.

First chance to do some daylight testing and it is significantly quicker.

It practically leaps into focus now rather than the previous gentle stroll...
