I fired up LR 4.1 several minutes ago and window popped up asking me if I wanted to download 4.2 so that is what I am doing now.

I am also running the installation of 4.2 just now. I hereby appeal to Sony to release for shipment my order for a NEX-6 with 16-50 pancake zoom now that Lightroom is providing RAW support.

Re: Lightroom 4.2 is now available
I noticed that LR 4.2 included a variety of improvements in addition to the new camera support. When I first used LR 4.1 I noticed some "jerking" and slowness although I have i5 processor and 6Gb RAM, but using 4.2 I find it as smooth as the old 3 version. Has anyone else noticed a speed improvement in 4.2?

I'm hoping to do the upgrade this weekend.alphaomega wrote:I noticed that LR 4.2 included a variety of improvements in addition to the new camera support. 4.1 was a huge step backwards from 3 in terms of speed.
On my i3 it is slow, hangs for up to 30 seconds for every frame change and winds me up to the extent I wished I hadn't upgraded.
I'm keen to try 4.2 to see if it helps.
I did notice that installing 4.1 left a huge version 3 folder in programs. Can this legacy folder be uninstalled without upsetting 4.1?
Mike
All my Sony SLT gear gone. Still got my RX100 though.

Re: Lightroom 4.2 is now available
Lr3 stays functional and nicely co-exists along with the Lr4 'upgrade' install. There's absolutely no need to uninstall the Lr3.
And you may still need that Lr3 version as it works much better under some specific conditions. E.g. the Lr4 automatic CA correction simply doesn't work if the CA-ridden edges are too soft or too dark for Lr4 to work with them while being too well visible to the eye, here Lr3 comes to help.

There are some performance improvements, the laggy switching between modules is much improved (for me at least)
I did notice some issues when zooming in 1:1 where it says it's loading the preview but just spins the circle around..another bug to squash I think!
