nikon to sony converter

Hi all, found this on ebay

Does anyone have any experience with this or any other nikon to sony converter. I am thinking of ZF Carl Zeiss lenses that could be used on an alpha body? Maybe I'm just dreaming.

I have a similar converter for Minolta MD to AF and the extra 1.2X magnification plus quite poor optical unit makes it - almost useless...

If I could find that thing in the US cheap, I'd buy one and then rent a Nikon 24TS to play with. Of course, further mods would still be needed to power the aperture on the nikon lens.

Still, would be a fun experiment even if the optical results would suck.

In case of MD to A-mount, you need an additional lens in the adapter because the register distance of the former is 43.5mm and as for the latter 44.5
In case of Nikon it's 46.5 mm so the adapter doesn't need any optical correction lens, just the adapter should push the lens away from the A-mount by 2mm, thus no image deterioration or correction.

Apart from whether or not the above adapter actually works do you think it would be technically possible to make an adapter for manual focus lenses (e.g. the Carl Zeiss ones for Nikon or Pentax) to be fitted on a alpha body? Are there any technical aspects that would prevent this from working (and working top notch of course)? From what Dr Harout said, it seems to be possible.

Cheap, good adaptors for the Carl Zeiss Pentax screw mount lenses (or Voigtlander ones) are easily enough found. But the current CZ designs use Pentax bayonet (K) and can not be adapted without engineering work on the lens mount. I've just bought two M42 screw thread focus chip confirmation adaptors for about $50 together, from Hong Kong. A lot of this was postage, the basic price is about $15 per adaptor. At the moment I do not have any M42 lenses around to try out as Richard took them to experiment with on Sigma SD14.

I have had a fairly good luck with MD/MA adapter. One caveat though. I found my keeper rate is very high (almost 80%) when I take
the shots in a fairly bright sunlight and/or if I use my flash. Being in Silicon valley of California, sunlight is not as much an issue for me.
I found that the light cut off is dramatic between the subject (e.g. a flower) in shadows and it is on the sunny side.
I bought a 500mm mirror lens on ebay with an adapter for Nikon (D80) a friend of mine has, along with MA adapter. That lens did fairly well on a
summer day on both the cameras.

Remember, it's not just registration distance that makes things work, and 2mm isn't much to work with. But you have to nest the bayonets in each other. That's the problem with F to A. You can't fit them within each other. Canon is big around, so people make it work.

For an F mount lens to go on non-optically, you have to do a Pete Ganzel method mount swap. Then you should be fine. This of course has limits as any nikon lens with Contacts will be an issue. They stick out on a ridge. So without doing damage to them, you would have to shift the lens down in the mount to stand a chance. Not a good option.

I looked at this when trying to figure if I could get a Nikon 24TS on A mount with a mount swap, but the contacts meant the lens would have to be permanently altered.
