A200 power lead

I'm probably missing the blindingly obvious but where can you get a Mains - DC supply for the A200? I've looked on the Sony website but couldn't see anything suitable. As my computer is slow it takes an age to download multiple RAW files and it would be handy to run the camera on mains power whilst doing this.

Wow! $150 for a dual battery charger/ power out lead, and no separate power lead only listed. This is one of the reasons that aftermarket companies flourish.

The flash power pack is $250! And it's simply an external battery pack that takes 6 "AA" batteries, not a sealed lead-acid gel cell!

When I did weddings on a regular basis, I had this great Potato Masher style flash that didn't have and external power connector. My solution was to unwrap a standard "AA" cell and pull out the top and bottom metal contacts. I then soldered wires to them and passed the wires thru 2 small cardboard tubes, creating in effect 2 double-long "AA" cells, as the unit took 4, in 2x2 configuration. The wires were passed thru a small slot cut into the battery cover, and terminated with a 9 volt battery type connector.

I bought a plastic 4 "D" cell carrier and another 9 volt battery type connector, and I had a fast recycling, L-O-N-G lasting battery pack for my flashes.

Total cost was under $10 at Radio Shack, and total time to construct it was about 2 hrs, much of that spent on trial and error. I had friends who had spent small fortunes for their external battery packs, and they were jealous of the simplicity and cost of mine.

Since neither the camera nor the power lead are standard, it wouldn't be so easy to do this for the Alpha cameras, but I wish I had a power lead to play with......

Thanks for the link but that's insane money. It's half the price of the camera!!! I'm thinking of writing a letter to Sony to complain although I know it'll be pointless. Suerly there must be a cheaper alternative. I've looked on ebay and can't see anything. If I find anything suitable I'll post a link.

There's always the card reader option I guess, but I've noticed a problem with mine even though it's a good fast Sandisk multi card type the computer and/or Elements6 think the files are different if they come from the reader or the camera and wants to download them all over again, if say, you take a few more shots and just plug the camera into the computer for a quick download and have not deleted the previous images yet...it's a real pest.

Greg, thanks for the advice. I think that might be the way to go for the time being. It would still be nice to have the power adaptor as I spend hours experimenting at home with settings and lighting so it would be useful to run on mains power. I've sent an email to Sony regarding the matter but I don't expect to get anywhere with it.
