Sigma 50mm f1.4/A900 does Burns night

Just some HVL-F58AM bounce flash shots (mainly around f/4-f/8) from our 250th Anniverary Burns Supper:

The first picture (repeated above) shows an advantage of the A900, it's a very small part of the frame shot from the other end of the room, used at 100 per cent. It was the best way I could quickly get the speaker lined up with the portrait of Burns he had hung on the wall about ten feet behind him. A zoom lens would have been better, but I was continuing my test of the Sigma 50, and decided I would limit myself to just that lens. You can also get an idea from Ian's sporran chain how well the Sigma HSM focuses and resolves. Conditions were low-level restaurant lighting, the flash makes it look rather brighter and removes much of the atmosphere I'm afraid - but it's still better than direct flash.

I might have to sally forth an procure one of those 50 f1.4 Siggy's at some point, doesn't take a bad image at all.

How about image quality by stepping down the aperture. MTF charts from DPReview tells another story unless we consistently use 1.4. Besides it is much larger and heavier than SAL 50/1.4 which is obviously better than my Canon 50/1.4 and not to mention the dust covered Nikkor 50/1.4D

I assume you are illustrating what was discussed in the 100mp thread in that with lots of pixels you can crop a lot to get the image you want. Although my A700 only has 12mp I can crop quite a bit and still have 6mp or sometimes even 3mp. Yeah, 3mp isn't a lot, but it is as much as the Canon D30 DSLR not so long ago. The freedom to crop is the main reason I would not be disappointed to have more megapixels. A few days ago I had a 24mm f2.8 on my A700 and one of the photos I took needed quite a bit of cropping. I ended up with about 3mp, but that is still usable for many things.
