My city at night

Unread post by Hawk »

Here are some night images I just posted on my photoblog.

With this one I'm not happy, it needed severe PP because it was totally reddish and a bit underxposed. Most of corrections were making it look artificial. Unfortunately tonal smoothnes on clouds was lost during proces. Yet I think its worth sharing. Cross visible here is highest steel cross in Poland (37 meters), built as memento for 2000 years of Christianity and sacred by Pope John Paul II.

Part of city market square decorated for Christmas. Market square in Limanowa is exactly 400 meters above sea level.

Love the shots! Somewhere in a box are all my memories of Poland in '96. I remember a long walk with a beautiful Polish girl on the docks of Sopot. She pointed out the lights across the bay. That's when I learned that Hell is in Poland! :) (For those who don't know they have a city named Hel.)

Fun memories of days gone by!

Hi Hawk, very interesting shots, I like #1 and #3 best. The picture with the cross on the hill behind the town is very atmospheric. I have never tried this kind of night photograhy - is it the White Balance that you have to take care to get right? Can you adjust this in RAW afterwards?

Hello Birma.

No, white ballance wasn't an issue with shot #1 and yes, it can be corrected in RAW. Low clouds were reflecting city lights and everything was illuminated in red/orange colors. I had to use spot metering and focus on cross as it was one of brightest things there, otherwise output was totally red. This shot was reddish too but at least light behind mountain and blue lights in bottom part had correct colors.
