Prized 3 1/2 inch male specimen of the man made species OB Peacock...Two crossed Lake Malawi, Africa species made these aggressive little beauties.

I was camping at Lake Malawi in 1993. I need to someday go through all my slides and scan a few more, but right now this shot of a boy sitting on a rock in Lake Malawi is all I have:

I just had a chance to read some of the recent comments in this thread. I thought I would just explain why I suggested that in addition to ocean photos that lake, river, etc. photos are also welcome. In my earlier Snow thread I was a bit surprised how slow it was to get photos posted to it. Surprised, because in the last few months when I posted Hawaii photos there were occasional comments about how it was cold and snowing where many other forum members reside. I figured with those conditions many people were out taking advantage of the great opportunity and getting lots of snow shots. Anyway, I figured for this thread in order to get more participation I might have to open it up wider.

My Achilles heel is now exposed. We had record snowfall this year at over 60 inches but since I pretty much despise the cold weather, other than a few ice pictures, you won't get a lot of winter shots from me!

It's those sandals - or is it bare feet? - in one of your self-portraits that give it away.

Shirley never wears shoes. She has a pair of sandals to slip on to go outside if needed (even in the snow). If she does wear shoes, it's either one specific type of Birkenstock sandal (every colour in stock) or serious walking boots, but I'd say that 6.5 days of every week, no shoes at all.

I've never seen her more at home than when we have been in Barbados - actually walking everywhere, miles, no problem - up with the sun, into the sea, an hour walking up and down the beach. In Scotland, she hibernates permanently except on very rare days when the temperature is above 75F. I know many people the same way, and I also know a few who escaped - they had the money to do so.

David, that must be pretty tough for Shirley to be stuck inside for so long. She sounds like a natural for some warm place near the ocean. If possible I hope you can take her to Barbados or somewhere else soon!

I just go barefoot on the beach and at home, but I wear flip-flops the rest of the time. I only put on some shoes about once every couple of months. We don't have a car here in Hawaii so we walk everywhere unless it is pretty far and then we ride the bus.

This is a photo of two women in a basket boat at Nha Trang, Vietnam. The water in this harbor was such a beautiful color and so clear! Right after I took this photo I got off the bigger boat I was in and rode in their basket boat to the dock. I really need to scan more of my old slides and negatives...

Don, yeah, that is too bad about being in all those places, but not having the money to buy much film. I was in the Marine Corps for a few years in a previous life, but didn't get to any exotic places. All my traveling was in my next life as a civilian.

Thanks, David. From 2000 to 2006 I spent about 2.5 years in Vancouver. I may go back this summer. Never got out to Ladner though. Nice shot of yours with great light.
